I stayed for 5 nights at the Harlem Victorian and was very comfortable. The innkeeper was helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was cold, but more than adequate (yogurt, bagel, fruit) and brought to my room at the time I requested. The house cats were very friendly! There is only the one room offered (so the bathroom is all yours), and the building details are clearly in need of some renovation, but everything worked just fine -- just don't expect a showroom type experience. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

It is a rare occasion to see a brownstone in Harlem that has not been converted into separate apartments, and that has kept its original flavor. Ian, the innkeeper, has done a wonderful job with his space, making the experience a comfortable and pleasant stay. Room was clean, quiet, and located in a delightfully preserved building. We were provided everything we needed, and enjoyed the experience fully, including the occasional visit by the two feisty resident cats. Breakfast is light, but provides enough for a good start to the day. No television or air conditioning, but access to wi-fi was provided and the ceiling fans provided good ventilation to make the room cool in the nice September weather. Overall an outstanding stay - will definitely be back.

The room was very beautiful. The service and the breakfast too. But it lacks a bit of cleanliness.

I highly recommend the Victorian Bed and Breakfast in Harlem for a unique, VERY affordable, and special experience. Ian, the owner, was helpful, accommodating, and sweet. When I stay places I like a little history and a real taste of the city or country I'm staying, so hotels don't usually excite me. This beautiful brownstone B&B checked all the boxes (and FREE parking on the street, too). One mile from Central Park, subway's right around the corner, near Lenox Coffee (which I also highly recommend) and close to a lot of really neat city life. The breakfast was simple and sustaining, the two cats were friendly, and the bed was VERY comfortable. Cannot say enough how much I enjoyed our stay!

My two day get-a-way was truly a fantastical experience. The Innkeeper Ian is an outstanding host. He's very knowledgeable of the neighborhood and hipped me to a groovy soul food restaurant call Jacob's which is about 2 blocks away from the brownstone. I also had the pleasure of being entertained by 2 friendly live-in cats. I will return to this bed-and-breakfast and recommend it to others. The lay-out is simple and cozy though some parts are still under construction. Transportation also very easy; there's no need to take a cab, rode the bus from LaGuardia to 125th & Lenox and rode the subway to Times Square to see a Broadway play, etc. Overall, I had a marvelous time!! It was a pleasure to stay here. I came for a training and I was met by the Inn Keeper and his two cats. I felt safe and sound. Breakfast was wonderful and filling. Ceiling fans to keep a cool night. Walking distance to trains even though I decided to drive. Finding parking not so bad. Quiet at night. Bed comfortable and cats great! The only thing I would say was a con was the bathroom which was beautiful in its oldness but needs a little scrubbing. I made reservations to stay for my next training. Obviously a good value for your budget and I was happy and fine.

The B&B is great value for New York if you are traveling on a budget. The place is close to the Metro, big room, and private bathroom (that may be need some extra cleaning!) The host is kind, very good breakfast and great advice about what to do and see in New York, especially very useful about the less touristic places to go. Sylvia's restaurant which is close by is a very good and popular restaurant.

Simple and satisfactory in a historic town house of the 1880s. A good place to stay for active new York visitors. The shower exceeded my expectations.

The room was very comfortable and we were very much looked after. The house is in a great spot in Harlem near the best restaurants and bars. Short walk to the train and bus. I will be recommending this place to my friends who travel to New York in the future.

Ian was wonderful and sweet. I enjoyed my stay at Harlem bed an breakfast. The location was very handy in enjoying the city life. The value for the stay was affordable and me and my sons enjoyed our stay.

We throughly enjoyed our 5 night stay in the Harlem Victorian. This owner-restored townhouse is an ongoing labor of love and, though a bit rough around the edges in places, it retains the original layout of rooms and many original fixtures, moldings, and luxurious charm of a bygone era. Our room was comfortable, clean, spacious, and quiet. As of this writing it is the only guest room in the house, so it offers total privacy. The owner was genial and accommodating, above and beyond the expected norm, in our experience. He also knows the ins and outs of the neighborhood and can offer seasoned advice on dining and sites. Breakfast was generous, and coffee and tea in the rooms was a welcome plus. We'll definitely come back when we next stay in Harlem, and highly recommend the Harlem Victorian to anyone looking for a genuine New York experience!

Large and cozey room with a very nice bed. Each day a royal breakfast is served by the innkeeper who has loads of good tips on the city. Public transport is near and Times Square is just 15 minutes away. Around the corner there's Red Rooster and Chez Lucienne for good food and the neighbourhood is alive, but silent at night. Maintenance could be improved, but for a week by yourself in NYC good value for your money.

You won't beat this place for value and location. A charming room with the most gracious innkeeper in NY. An historic house in Harlem at a very reasonable rate.

Very convenient location and cordial host. Older guests should be aware of one flight of steep stairs. Comfortable bed, generous breakfast (bagel & cream cheese, muffin, yogurt, orange juice), coffee and tea in your room. Nice towels but I could have used a face cloth. Also could have used brighter bedside light - not very good for reading. All in all, a good value for NYC and I would stay here again.

The bed and breakfast is in a brownstone near restaurants in the heart of Harlem, easy walking distance to the subway. The host is very welcoming and accommodating. The house is being restored to its original state after years as an SRO; it is attractive but a bit rough in places. The bathroom is on the hall. There are two cats who like to visit, if you let them in.

I stayed at Harlem Victorian B&B for 4 nights. The house is stunning and so is the room. You can really have a feel for the 'old' Harlem. It is perfectly located: one block away from the metro. Ian makes you feel at home and has everything to make your stay comfortable: wifi, breakfast... Highly recommended for those who wanna explore uptown NYC

Harlem Victorian is a very good place to stay in New York. Very well located, at walking distance from central Park, in a very quiet and safe part of the big town, very close to quick lines of the subway. The House is a fine piece of architecture, very well managed by Ian. He is the person you need to meet when you have a question and also if you have none. New York is fine but it is better if you are staying at Harlem Victorian. Christian, France, 2011 October

stayed two nights in September at the Harlem Victorian B&B and enjoyed it. The host, Ian, was very helpful with advice about places to go and simply simpathetic. Location in Harlem is quiet and yet very close to public transport and downtown.

If you want to go to NYC, I strongly recommend you this B&B. It have very convenient transportation condition: 3 main subway stations along the 125th street can easily take you to anywhere in the city. Its owner, Ian, the most welcoming, kind, nice person will provide you a real home feeling stay in the city! Furthermore, Ian understands the city and its history so that you get chance to immerse yourself in NYC, try to be a New Yorker! I spend 4 fantastic days here and Ian helped me a lot! I aslo want to mention that, this apartment is really of the style that you look from the picture, which is my favorite, the Victorian style! Aside from this, Ian is very considerate that he put coffee& coffee maker, hot water boiler, delicate tea cup, and a whole box of selection of tea!! Wonderful New York, Wonderful Stay with Ian. I will definitely go back again!

We spent 4 fantastic days at Harem Victorian B&B. Apart from the fact that the rooms were very clean and extremely comfortable, the perfect breakfast and the convenience of public transport, we were struck by the kindness of Ian, his availability and his knowledge of Harlem. The Victorian building, with its steep staircases and creaky floors, the high ceilings and two cute cats is really beautiful, perfectly matching the neighborhood of Harlem. This place is realy a perfect place to stay in NYC.

I have to say this is a fantastic place to stay and Ian is a welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable host. If you're travelling to NY you're probably overwhelmed with where to stay and why. Harlem gives you a different perspective on NY, but still within a short subway ride to all the tourist sites. Harlem is bustling, vibrant and 'real', plus Ian's provided lovely accommodation for very reasonable prices. The breakfast is excellent and the room is exceptionally clean. This place has real character, my only extremely small gripe would be the air conditioner in the room takes a while to get going, but this is probably more because I'm a Scot staying in NY in September rather than a critical comment! Overall, would definitely stay here again. Ian has a lot of knowledge about NY and Harlem in particular (and believe me it’s a fascinating place). Good connections to JFK and LG. Excellent service! Extremely competitive prices. Fantastic.

Ian was extremely responsive and accommodating while inquiring and booking a bed and breakfast; faster and more friendlier than any others that I contacted in the area. Upon arrival I was greeted promptly and cheerfully welcomed to the quaint and historic Harlem Victorian B&B. The stairs have a little creak to them, the water needs to run before warm, but it is all part of the homey feel that made me so happy to stay here, and his cats too! Ian is very accommodating and knowledgeable of NYC and Harlem with great tips and advice in the city. The breakfast was tasteful and plentiful with an in-room coffee maker, and a personal bathroom a few feet from the door made getting ready in the morning a breeze. A quick walk to places of interest and the subways, make no mistake by choosing Harlem Victorian B&B.
