Can't say enough good things about Richard, Polly and the Inn. We have stayed here many times and have tried most of the rooms, all of which are uniquely decorated with an eclectic and charming flare. We will continue to return every time we're in town. As a rule, we never eat breakfast anywhere else, Polly's quiches are definitely a highlight of the stay!

The Highlights: The location is great, right on Front Street, one block from Water St. and the River Walk. There is private parking and no need to drive if you don't want to, which we did not. The building is historic, and well maintained. The downside: The location. The building is literally right on Front St., only a sidewalk's width away from traffic, and the traffic kept up all night on the weekend. Our room was on the ground floor and not at the very front of the building. Passing traffic sounded like the windows were open when they were closed. After the first night, we left, giving up the cost of our second night, and staying in another establishment directly on the river with better accommodations, for less money. But the traffic was not the reason we left after the first night. It was the distance of the staff, from the moment we checked in. No "Welcome to Front Street Inn" at any point. It was clear we had interrupted what the staff person was occupied with so that we could be checked in. The most conversation either of us had with either of the owners was when we left, regarding the reason for our early check out. Then there's the Continental Breakfast. Despite the owner's contention, the presence of a toaster does not make it a "hot" breakfast. My wife and I have accumulated ample B&B experience over several decades in a variety of locations, and this is not a B&B experience, and in our opinion should not be advertised as such. While the owner, in his own words to me upon checking out, may have gotten rich in the hospitality industry, that's not an indication of how successful he has been at satisfying his patrons. He did quite well monetarily from our brief stay, and yet we have no plans to return or to recommend his establishment. There are better choices in equally good or better locations for access to the historic downtown area and the River Walk.

We thank our guests for their feedback. Since we strive to make every guest experience a pleasant experience with 100% satisfaction, I personally apologize if you felt anything but welcome here at the Front Street Inn. Moreover, I'm sorry to hear you had a less-than-wonderful night sleep. Had you given us the opportunity to make other arrangements for you, like a suite in the rear of the inn, we would have exceeded your expectations! Although we are centrally located in the heart of Wilmington's historic downtown business and entertainment district, and some of our rooms face Front Street, we have had very few (perhaps one or two) "concerns" about the street noise. Most of our guests who stay in those rooms comment about how little street noise they actually hear despite being so close to the road. Some of the guest's other comments, however, are quite perplexing to me. First, The Front Street Inn has operated for nearly 25 years as a bed & breakfast inn. If, by "traditional" you mean we all eat together at one large table at one appointed time, and our rooms are filled with Victorian fixtures and lace...then by your definition we most certainly are NOT a "traditional" b&b. Our style is much more eclectic and, as some have noted, is reminiscent of Key West or a casual European-inspired inn. That said, it's fine for the guest to give his assessment of our bed and breakfast-ness, but just because it doesn't fit his definition, doesn't make us not a b&b. Second, WE DO have a wonderful homemade full buffet breakfast conveniently available from 8AM to 10AM daily. Calling it a "continental breakfast ...with toaster items" is not only fiction, it's insulting to me and to all the reviewers who rave about the breakfast. Perhaps the guest felt hyperbole would strengthen his case? As you can read from other reviews, here and elsewhere, the breakfast ALWAYS includes eggs and other protein (usually in the form of a quiche...some kind reviewers have posted photos of the quiche), among other favorites. I have to say...that comment, especially, is just not accurate (again, as the majority of other Bedandbreakfast.com, Trip Advisor, Google, and Yelp reviews will attest). I know potential guests will read all the reviews and judge for themselves if this bed & breakfast inn is the right choice for them. I thank BedandBreakfast.com for the opportunity to give my perspective!

My husband and I went to Wilmington for a weekend and decided to stay at a B&B for a change. We truly loved our stay at this Port City Guest House. Sophie is an excellent hostess and made us feel like part of her family. The inn is absolutely gorgeous. There was a perfect balance between privacy and entertainment. We will definitely go back.

We stayed in the Bistro Suite with the dining package. They suggested a wonderful restaurant and had delicious chocolate covered strawberries waiting in our room. Breakfast was so good. Looking forward to our next stay.

A very fine place to stay and great staff! Everything from arrival to departure was handled with the kind of service you would expect at the Ritz! Highly recommended!

I travel frequently for business and pleasure and have fallen for FRONT STREET INN. While drinking wine in the cute lounge area, I've met interesting people and picked up good local travel tips. The location is great and the people lovely.

We are originally from Wilmington, and every time we come back to visit family, we always book at stay at the Front Street Inn. We have stayed here at least 5 times, and have never been disappointed. The rooms are great, the location is so convenient, and breakfast is always very good too. We can't wait for our next stay!!

Both Richard (the owner) and his wife were warm and welcoming when we first arrived at the inn. They were also very friendly and were able to give great advice about the town and places to see and eat at.
