Printers House

5 sur novembre 03, 2017

We had a great time! Very friendly and gracious owners. Breakfast was delicious!

5 sur octobre 23, 2017

We could not have been happier with our 3 night stay at Barrow House! Shirley's egg breakfasts are amazing. She and son Chris proved to be perfect hosts. We had the Empire Suite which was roomy and comfortable, and oh so quiet! Our traveling partners lodged in the Victorian Suite, both in the Printer's Cottage. Shirley is the perfect tour guide and Chris graciously stopped what he was doing on our last day to snap photos of our group of 4. We will be back some day!

Charming Stay in a Charming Town

First time visitor to St. Francisville. Shirley is a wonderful hostess, the Inn is a historical treasure, and the town is beautiful. Well worth your time.

The best and cutest b&b

5 sur avril 17, 2017

My boyfriend and I stayed to the Barrow House Inn the past weekend, and we loved it. The inn has a very vintage feel, and the suite we were in was beautiful. The house was also fully functional with a kitchen and everything so that was also great. The lady that runs it was very helpful to us by telling us about the inn, our room, and tips on what to do etc. She is such a sweet woman and also makes the best breakfast! If you are looking for very relaxing and nice getaway at a B&B I highly recommend the Barrow House Inn!

Nice Stay

Breakfast was wonderful and the staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Too bad we couldn't stay longer!

Vacation at the Inn.

5 sur novembre 27, 2016

We arrived a few hours early,as we requested, and Shirley had out room ready. We stayed in the Empire Suit in the Printer House. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The parlour and bathroom was clean. The kitchen was fully stocked with all that you could need. Shirley and Chris were warm and such amazing hosts. Shirley gave us a breakdown of different places we could visit and history of the house. In the mornings we had breakfast, which was delicious, as well as coffee/tea. They inquired about our plans and made themselves available at all times. In addition, we left the day before Thanksgiving and we got a sweet text from Shirley wishing us a happy thanksgiving. We plan to return again when we wish to go back to St. Francisville.

Wonderful House

Host was fantastic and very knowledgeable of local history. Rooms were spacious with a very large sitting area. We had 24-hour access to Kitchen and beverages. House located on the oldest street in St. Francisville in a very quit neighborhood.

Very homey!

Barrow House Weekend Get Away

5 sur septembre 26, 2016

Our stay with Ms. Shirley and her son, Chris, qualifies as our best Bed and Breakfast experience to date. What a relaxing setting. We spent two nights in the Victorian Room. It's a two room suite in the historic Printers House across the street from the main Barrow House. Evenings on the deep set porch spent rocking and watching the squirrels scamper up and down the magnolia and oak trees, relaxing in the sitting room with a good book ( I read A Confederacy of Dunces from the house book shelf), sleeping in 1870's french queen bed, only to wake up and enjoy a magnificent breakfast is the perfect prescription if you are looking for a way to escape your world for a while. I must tell you, the Basin St. Eggs Benedict was so good I had it twice. Ms. Shirley and Chris keep the Printers House well stocked with everything you need. In fact the kitchen has a cabinet dedicated to things you may have forgotten to pack. You will want for nothing during your stay. As we traveled to many historic destinations in the area, we were always asked where we were staying. When we said Barrow House, without exception, we watched as the ones asking beamed giant smiles and gave the house and the hosts glowing reviews. They gave us great advice to help us plan our days. Ms. Shirley and Chris are gracious hosts and have been at Barrow House for decades. They know the area well and will gladly share interesting stories about the people and places that make St. Francisville such a unique destination.

Our Wedding and Honeymoon

5 sur septembre 21, 2016

We got married at the Barrow House but we stayed across the street at the Printer's House. I can not say enough good things about the hostess Shirley she was charming, kind, gracious, and very accommodating. We had a suite that was very spacious and comfortable. She provides all of the little extra touches to make your stay a memorable one. I definitely recommend this place and will stay there again soon. The breakfast is also plentiful and of excellent quality I would give Shirley and her houses a million stars!!!!!!!!!

Charmante! (Charming)

4,2 sur juillet 27, 2016

My wife and I will book Barrow House again next time we visit St. Francisville (and we will, because one weekend is not enough to see-and-do all in this historic community). The location in the historic district is ideal. The hostess is ever-available and super-attentive without being intrusive. The suite we rented was quaint. The house was filled with interest. The three-egg gourmet breakfasts each morning were supreme. Sure, it's an old house--a very old house!---so it has some old-house issues, but we were comfortable and hosted supremely.

Comfy and cozy with wonderful host and hostesses!

3,4 sur mai 30, 2016

The Victorian Room at the Barrow House Inn was cozy and comfortable. Shirley and Chris were wonderful hostess and host and we enjoyed visiting with them. They are very knowledgeable of the area and shared great places to visit while in St. Francisville. The bathroom in our room was very small (it was an add on) but in all the room was very comfortable.

Charming place

Charming authentic historical place with a very informative owner who will captivate you with her stories about Saint Francisville and the area.

Fabulous Stay at Barrow House

5 sur février 28, 2016

Barrow House B&B did an outstanding job of combining the quiet southern retreat with all of the modern anemitites I needed for my weekend attending The Writing Symposium in St. Francisville. Ms. Shirley and her son Chris, did a wonderful job of making sure I was attended to and snuggled into a nice warm comfortable bed each night. The Rose Room was such a delight! I loved sleeping in a teester bed! Oh my, can't wait until next year when I shall return! Patricia Landry Settoon

A very relaxing place to stay. Much like visiting an old friend's home.

wonderful stay in St Francisville

3,4 sur avril 16, 2015

This was the perfect suite for 3 to stay in, very roomy with the parlor sitting area. The shower was the only inconvenience for the elderly person in our party since it is in a stand alone tub with a circular curtains. Stepping into the tub was a bit tricky! It is very quiet & we slept wonderful!

Wonderful in every area!

4,6 sur février 26, 2015

The owners of the Barrow House were extremely helpful. They made our stay comfortable and enjoyable. They were able to share the history of the town, as well as, information about what we should do during our stay. Our room was clean and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was great. My husband loved their selection of movies. We will definitely be coming back.

the b&b was cute and the proprietors were very nice and helpful.

If I could give 10 stars, I would.

5 sur octobre 29, 2014

The Empire Suite was amazing for my husband, daughter and myself. My daughter loved the bears and fell in love with Ms. Shirley. The breakfast was perfection. Shirley was informed about every aspect of the area. I just loved eating breakfast with tourists from all over the USA and Thailand to boot! We will recommend the Barrow House to everyone looking for a relaxed, wonderful getaway.

Barrow House Inn

5 sur mai 28, 2014

Our room was beautiful, clean, spacious, lacking for nothing in amenities, and very historically appealing--I felt like Scarlett waking up at Tara! Shirley was a treasure in relating historic vignettes about the house and the town's history; and her breakfasts were exquisite!

What a treat

5 sur mai 21, 2014

Barrow House is an absolute delight. Shirley is a terrific host and has thought of everything you need for a delightful stay. The rooms are beautiful, the refrigerator stocked. Combine that with the best eggs Benedict in the world and you have a e winner. Shirley knows the area and can guide you to the best places and some hidden treasures. Can't say enough positive things about the barrow house

Spacious room in historic house

4,4 sur mai 13, 2014

We recently stayed at the Barrow House Inn for a weekend getaway. We had wanted one of the suites but all were booked, and this was the only weekend we had available. There was a scheduling snafu with the website but Chris emailed within 12 hours or so. The only room left was the Rose Room, which actually turned out just fine. It was bigger than I expected and the bathroom was also spacious. It had a tub/shower with a shower curtain, which is not always the case when traveling, and very welcome after days walking around in the hot South! All the antiques in the room and parlor were beautiful. Breakfast was beautifully presented and tasted great. Perfectly poached eggs for everyone at the table (definitely get the egg breakfast for an extra $5). The only issues were a puppy that barked ALL NIGHT LONG a couple of houses down on the side we were facing (totally not within Barrow House Inn's control and I am sure the owners are well aware of the puppy barking so speaking to them would do nothing. It sounded very young so hopefully it won't be an issue for long. It was just a sad & lonely puppy. The second night we put Pandora on and that did help) and the bed was smaller than we were used to. I think it was a full or double. High (antique bed, very beautiful) & not very wide, which is only a problem if you have a blanket hog who also tosses & turns a lot. They have just about anything you could possibly need if you have forgotten something, and a little common fridge if you needed to store anything or buy a soda. As others have mentioned, there are no keys in the main house, but I do believe either Shirley or Chris are there at all times and it is a very low crime tiny town. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the sites within walking distance. It is on a street lined with beautiful houses to look at, so definitely take a stroll.

Nice weekend destination

4,0 sur mai 07, 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Barrow house for his birthday. The BnB was nice, clean, comfortable beds, and Shirley and Chris were gracious friendly hosts. The inn was much closer to everything in town than we expected, and we could walk to all the restaurants and shops. I only had two complaints, and they are kind of nitpicky: one was that the first night when Chris showed us to our room he asked us to pick out our breakfast for the morning. The check box paper said the egg breakfast choices were an extra $5 each, but it was scratched out and he told us not to worry about the cost. So we assumed that meant the cost was included, but it was not included, so at check out we owed an extra $10 for breakfast each morning. I think it's tacky when a self professed BnB charges for breakfast, and I felt a little tricked about the way that they charged for it after we were told not to worry about it. Also on the last morning we were there they removed all the towels and linens from our room while we were at breakfast; sheets, towels, and hand towels. We had not stayed gone past checkout time, it wasn't even 10am when we got back from breakfast. Overall it was a nice stay, and probably one of the better places in St Francisville.

We were staying in St Francisville for my daughters wedding. Our suite was beautiful and well cared for. The family took plenty of time to share local history and advice on local restaurants to enjoy, We will definitely stay here in the future and would recommend it to anyone staying in this beautiful southern town.

Wonderful time

5 sur mars 19, 2014

We stayed in the Printers Cottage and Shirley and Chris are the best of host. They make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable and are a wealth of knowledge about the area attractions. You can't go wrong staying here in either home with them.

Barrow House birthday weekend

A very charming and historic place to stay. A lot of interesting facts about this place and the neighborhood surrounding it. It was built in the same year Abe Lincoln was born (1809)!!!!

Made us feel like family!

5 sur juillet 31, 2013

Very relaxed atmosphere and well stocked refrigerator (beer, wine, sodas, etc.) as well as available snacks and munchies. Beautiful manicured grounds with private parking. Large TV with great picture. Best mattress ever. Roomy bath in the Empire Suite. Quiet and peaceful! Knowledgeable owner took time to converse and share information regarding the town and Barrow House in particular. We are hoping to return. Kay and Bob, Metairie, LA.

Had a great time

We had a great time on our honeymoon. Shirley was so kind and accommodating. Rooms were very clean. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed our conversations with Shirley.

A very good B&B experience

Mrs. Shirley has thought of everything you need to make your trip a good one.

Nice Host - Cool old Home - squeaky bed!

4,4 sur mai 22, 2013

We stayed two nights in the Rose Room, which is one of the less expensive options. Bathroom was roomy and clean, bed was comfortable and cool but very sqeaky (not unexpected from such an old, cool antique piece I suppose). I would recommend bringing a small box fan or maybe a 'white noise' machine if you need background noise to sleep. When you get all settled in the place is VERY quiet! Our host was very gracious despite our late check-in around 10:30pm and I have no complaints. I would recommend a stay here especially if you would like a an historical experience; or if you are just tired of boring hotel and motel rooms! There are also many interesting items spread about the house of historical interest. I especially appreciated the basket of 'freebies' where you can grab some allergy meds or toothpaste if needed. Overall a great experience. Cheers - Dustin in Covington, LA

Wonderful Bed & Breakfast That Makes You Feel Special

Barrow House Peach Room

3,8 sur février 27, 2013

Great breakfast, large but cozy room, and central location.

very relaxing atmosphere

4,6 sur février 06, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing get away from home. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for the big claw foot tub. The food was better than many B & B's that I have tried. Shirley and Chris were very helpful and knowledgable about the area. If you are staying in St. Francisville, I highly recommend the Peach Room at the Barrow House.

Staying in history in a historic Louisiana village

4,8 sur janvier 27, 2013

Our stay at Barrow House was outstanding overall. We arrived and had an "orientation" by the innkeeper which made the most of our 2 day stay. She pointed out where to go, how far each site was, where to eat and how to prioritize our time. We took her advise and had a great stay. We were also upgraded which was a nice treat. The breakfasts were great - real authentic cuisine, and the we enjoyed a little porch sitting. There were lots of extras - movies, a pictoral history of the house, books about the area, coffee in the cottage in the morning, a refrig stocked with drinks, glassware, etc. Our suite was outstanding with lots of room and antiques. The only recommendation I would make is that the innkeeper has a passion for "bears" and has maybe gone a bit too far with the bear theme. and maybe they could be used in the common areas, but would recommend far fewer in the individual rooms.

The Epitome of Southern Hospitality

5 sur octobre 11, 2012

We recently stayed at the Barrow House when we were in the area for a family wedding. We could not have asked for a better stay! Shirley is a shining example of a Southern hostess, welcoming us into her home, sharing the history of the home and furnishings, being a fantastic cook, sharing her knowledge and insight about the area and goings-on, ensuring that all the guests knew one another, and accommodating our needs. We would highly recommend the Barrow Inn and look forward to a return trip ourselves.

Great B&B central to some fun attraction

4,0 sur septembre 19, 2012

The Barrow House Inn was a great place to stay - quiet, comfortable, delicious breakfast, and very conveniently located. The Magnolia Cafe, one of the best restaurants in St. Francisville by my estimation, was a fifteen-minute leisurely walk away - a good opportunity to check out the shops and information center on the main street. I would recommend this B&B.

Wonderful stay !

Thank you for the kindness, the patience and all the advices during the stay ! And for the tasty breakfast ! Indispensable stop in St Francisville

Great Place for a Great Price

4,4 sur avril 17, 2012

This place was great. I would recommend it to anyone stopping by in St. Francisville. It is within walking distance of many of the city's sites. Shirley is great and has great advice on what to do in the area. She is also very knowledgable about the house. I couldn't have asked for a better stay. We stayed in the "Cannonball Room" which is not on their website. It was very nice and quiet with a lot of character.

Wonderful B&B

5 sur avril 05, 2012

We came here for our "babymoon" and enjoyed every minute. Not only did Barrow House have excellent hospitality, but the house was beautiful as well. Shirley was very knowledgeable about things to do in the area and told us where she recommended we go. I was very happy with this because we didn't even think about visiting Oakley Plantation, which we enjoyed as much as Rosedown. Our room was clean and the house was kept at a comfortable temperature, especially when coming out of the heat of Southern Louisiana Spring! Egg breakfasts were amazing; between the two of us, we had all 3 and they were equally delicious (and I'm not much of an egg eater). I definitely would recommend Barrow House to anyone who is looking for a quiet getaway or a relaxing vacation in general.

4,4 sur mars 19, 2012

Great house! - Original furnishings & architectrual details. Easy to walk downtown, to the church, to the shops. The innkeepers were very personable and helpful. Southern charm in abundance.

Very nice hosts, history & setting

4,0 sur mars 09, 2012

Historic house in history town with inkeepers with a very unique role in history. Room was very nice, quiet town, very comfortable and spacious room, good Wi-Fi, and privacy. Innkeepers have wonderful ideas and information for a wide variety of activities in the area; you need 4 days to experience what seems like to be something for everybody. Standard breakfast is nice and it was an appreciated option to upgrade to a full hot New Orlean's style egg dish. Very congenial hosts and a unique chance to learn about early US space research!

Barrow House Weekend

We spend a leisurely weekend in St Francisville. Great Host. We stayed in the small house across the street from Barrow, but thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Great place to kick back.

Our Baby-Moon

4,8 sur août 31, 2011

My wife and I went here for a nice quiet weekend for our Baby-moon. We had a wonderful time. Shirley, the owner, was very helpful is educating us about the surrounding area and suggested things for us to do. I do have to say, if you stay here, you MUST try the eggs creole. They are an extra $5, but this breakfast is worth every penny of it. Very clean room. Shirley even made some homemade cookies for us as a welcome present. There was also a bottle of cognac in the room. Every night, I had a nice little night-cap, and we were not charged for this. Great experience.

49th Anniversary

4,8 sur juin 28, 2011

We stayed in the Printers Cottage, which was beautifully furnished with canopied bed and parlor and our own kitchen. Everything we needed was provided for us. Shirley the Innkeeper was a fountain of information about the area and the Plantation houses. We even went to Angola Prison which was so enlightening . In a video it spoke of rehabiliatation of prisoners. They were refurbershing wheel chairs to give to those in need. We were amazed at their dedication. We went to OXbow for a fabulous dinner.. the best. We would go back again. We was relaxing to sit on the porch and rock!! Thank you! Shirley!!

Barrow House Inn/Printer's House

5 sur mai 06, 2011

Shirley and Chris were very welcoming, friendly, accomodating, informative, and knowledgeable about the area and it's history. They made us feel like old friends who had come to visit. The rooms are exquisitely furnished and you feel as though you just stepped back in time - a very romantic setting. The breakfasts were delicious and expertly cooked and served. I did not expect such royal treatment. I can't wait for the opportunity to return!

4,8 sur avril 28, 2011

After the madness of New Orleans we fancied some quiet Louisiana. Up popped this lovel B&B as we planned. We stayed in the Empire Suite. Ornately decorated with both interesting and comfortable furniture - and lots (and lots!) of teddy bears. We loved the warm welcome and hospitality from Shirley and Chris, and we're glad we paid the small supplement to have the proper breakfasts (and meet the other guests at the large table). If you want all mod-cons and a modern hotel atmosphere then this isn't for you - but if you would like an old house prettily and characterfully decorated, with a seperate sitting room and a small but lovely bathroom as part of the suite then book now. And there are rocking chairs on the porch, so you can sip wine (or a mint julep?) and enjoy the quiet. There'a a kitchen with complementary tea/coffee etc. - and loads of info on what to do - but Shirley will have briefed you thoroughly. A great place to stay (unless, of course, you really are phobic about Teddy Bears!)

Wonderful B & B Experience!

5 sur avril 26, 2011

Everything was wonderful! Room was beautiful, spacious, and perfectly appointed. Very clean and Shirley and Chris were very helpful in recommending and suggesting things to do, places to go, and things to see. Breakfast was also delicious. Highly recommend the Barrow House Inn.

Had a wonderful stay!

3,6 sur avril 03, 2011

This was our first stay in a b&b! My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay for our first anniversary. The room was lovely, hospitality was terrific and the area was enjoyable. We would return for another stay and would recommend Barrow House. PS: The special New Orleans style egg breakfast's are wonderful and are definitely worth every penny of the extra five dollars.

Great Stay

5 sur mars 30, 2011

My stay at the Barrow House Inn in March 2011 was excellent. The service was fantastic. The owners were very accommodating and were the very definition of southern hospitality. The breakfasts were in a large dining room with other guests that had a family atmosphere and the food was amazing. That was probably the first time I've had grits, and I'll have them there again. Next time I am in St. Francisville, I'll definitely be staying at the Barrow House Inn!

We'll be back!!

4,2 sur mars 19, 2011

Loved our stay at the Barrow Inn & the proprietors were wonderful. We'll be back!

Incredible weekend

5 sur janvier 26, 2011

Shirley and Chris are were great. From the moment we arrived they made us feel like family. Shirley spent a good amount of time giving us the history of the home and the area. She also gave us information about events that were ongoing and specific to our weekend. We stayed in the "Peach Suite" it was very clean and well decorated. Our overall experience was excellent and we would highly recommend staying here. True southern hospitality at its finest.

Living History

My mother, sister and I had a wonderful stay at the Printer's cottage. We had the house to ourselves. The antiques were wonderful and we enjoyed the teddy bear decorations. The history of the place and the area was fascinating. We would stay there again and recommend it to anyone1

3,2 sur octobre 16, 2010

The hosts at the Barrow House are very kind and accommodating. The suite we stayed in (the Victorian) was nice as well. I have just one comment for the owners: LOSE THE BEARS. The entire suite was decked out in literally dozens (if not hundred) of teddy bears. Teddy bear stuffed animals, teddy bear door knockers, teddy bear soap dispensers, teddy bear foot stools. Teddy bears everywhere. It was not quaint. It was not amusing. It was not kitschy. It was distracting and just plain annoying. If someone is booking a room in a "historic" house, the last thing they want to see is all kinds of cheap brick-a-brack crap from the local K-Mart. It really kind of spoiled the atmosphere. Overall, though, (minus the bears) the Barrow House is a nice B + B.

Réponse du propriétaire
At Barrow House Inn, we like to think of our guests as not just a credit card but as friends. Most of the teddy bears in the Victorian Suite have been donated by a couple who return annually for their anniversary (this year will be the 16th). Every year, they bring a bear from their travels around the country. We are thrilled that they think enough of our place to remember us on their vacations. Some of our guests bring gifts (and not just bears) when they visit. In today's impersonal society, this is a welcome tradition that we encourage. We hope everyone who stays here will enjoy themselves, lighten up and "bear" with it.

We will definitely make a yearly visit to the Barrow House Inn.

Barrow House Inn

3,8 sur avril 24, 2008

Overall we had an enjoyable stay at the Barrow House Inn. Shirley was extremely hospitable, provided superb service, and was quite helpful with suggestions on where to eat and things to do in the area. The room was comfortable and the food was very good. We were surprised, however, that there was an additional charge ($5.00) for the breakfast, other than the continental breakfast. The egg dishes were very good, but we feel it would have been more appropriate to include this fee in the price of the room. After all, this is a bed and breakfast.

5 sur avril 12, 2008

We are generally adverse to B& Bs, since they are hard to judge in advance (do we get stuck with the owners watching Basketball? other boring guests?). The Barrow House Inn was a home run. PERFECT service (turn-down at evening), choice of breakfasts (in-cottage or at the Inn). Shirley was a WEALTH of knowledge about the St. Fransiville, LA area. Plus, a myriad of books about the house, the area, sites to see, and so on. A SLAM DUNK! If you want to stay in this area, the Barrow House is THE place to stay! (and mind you, we are VERY picky about where we stay!)
