Our family of 6 occupied 4 rooms at Sweet Olive and were guests of Nancy & Jessica. Their B&B is an awesome historic place to stay. Close to the French Quarter as well as an amazing food hall called Roch Market. Nance and Jexxica were wonderful hosts and attended to our every need and provided great suggestions for things to do while we were in New Orleans. The breakfasts are fresh made and delicious and the accommodations are clean and spacious. The most amazing part of our travel from Houston to New Orleans is that we had to stay with Nance and Jessica for an additional 4 days past our intended departure date due to Hurricane Harvey's impacts to the Houston area. They were so kind, accommodating, and sympathetic to our situation throughout our stay. You won't find a better property and you definitely won't find a more accommodating staff anywhere in the city. Nancy & Jessica will always have a special place in our hearts and we won't stay anywhere else for our next visit to New Orleans.

This is a wonderful little B&B. The neighborhood is amazing. There is a food co-op across the street and a food court like place a block away that has awesome food. The neighborhood itself is very quiet, although walking distance to the French Quarter. Plenty of free parking nearby. There is a nice little garden to sit in as well as quiet places to sit indoors. And it is good value for the money. We will definitely be back.

We were so glad to get rooms here for our last visit. Everything was perfect, from the room (Palm) to the hospitality of Nancy and the new inn keeper, to the breakfast. Nancy found our family member another B&B room for a night due to our late reservation, and that was much appreciated as no rooms were available in Faubourg/Marigny without her help. Such a convenient location, far enough from the commotion of the quarter, but near enough to walk or take a bus or cab. The new St. Roch food building on St. Claude is just a block away and offers a dozen or more food vendors, serving everything from hamburgers (why?) to gumbo..

Perfect place to stay in NOLA. Will stay here every time we return

Without doubt the best B&B we've stayed in. Anywhere. Well located away from the hustle and bustle, but a pleasant walk into town through a charming area. Jessica, our hostess, was superb: pleasant, helpful and knowledgable, without being obtrusive. Breakfast was different every day and had everything you could wish for. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in New Orleans.

Had a wonderful weekend in New Orleans and the staff at Auld Sweet Olive made me feel right at home. They were very helpful in suggestions on dining and transportation and things to do. The rooms were very comfortable and the neighborhood very quiet. The only things I would suggest is that their at least be one TV somewhere on premise. I am there to unwind but I still would have liked to have access to one. Also, I am a early riser and there was no coffee available until 8 am.

It was our second stay(after 2014) at the Auld Sweet Olive and we were thrilled just like the first time, and as due to cancellations we were the only guest for 3 days,we felt like kings in this wonderful house. Outstanding the daily fresh breakfast, freshly made cakes, muffins, ciche, eggs in the basket, provided by Jessica, who runs the place. She and Nancy, the owner, made us feel at home every day!

We absolutely love Auld Sweet Olive B&B. We have stayed there the last two times we were in NOLA. The rooms are great, the breakfast is wonderful, staff is always friendly and helpful. Close walking to the French Quarter and trolley lines. We felt very safe walking the neighborhood at night. It feels like home! - S.Martin, Medford Oregon.

We are repeat visitors to Sweet Olive. Alison, the new innkeeper, is doing a wonderful job keeping everything up to Owner Nancy's high standards! It's a treasure in an eclectic neighborhood with plenty to offer on its own and an easy uber ride to the French Quarter. Can't wait to try out the Rampart Streetcar on my next trip.

This a beautiful oasis in the midst of an eclectic neighborhood. Good access to health market across the street, St Roch Market, a modern day food court based on an old market hall with unique high quality vendors. Saving the best for last: Alison, the innkeeper was a wealth of information, and had all the qualities necessary for providing outstanding hospitality. I've stayed in some lovely bed and breakfasts ... this experience topped them all. Will stay again. If you like "walking a city" you can't find a more strategic location. Close to the quarter, Bywater, and yet the peacefulness of a neighborhood.

This was a beautiful B&B and Alison, the Innkeeper was so welcoming and lovely to chat with - she also makes the best spinach and artichoke quiche! A very easy going environment where it was great to relax and chill out after partying in NOLA - the breakfasts were amazing too! The rooms were beautifully decorated and so comfortable :)

I stayed at the Auld Sweet Olive for five nights and will return, if I have a chance. It's an easy, flat, safe walk to pretty much anywhere in the French Quarter. I never felt unsafe walking at any hour of the day or night (I am a woman in my 40s, traveling alone). If you're there for Jazz Fest, the B&B is a few blocks away from a bus stop for the $1.25 trip to the fairgrounds. I was in the Cypress room. Lovely decor, comfy bed with marvellously soft sheets, very quiet at night. The bathroom in the Cypress room is small, with a pedestal sink and not much shelf space, so it might not be the best room to choose if you're the high-maintenance grooming type. The shower is a tight fit with a very small stall and the hot water came and went a bit more randomly than I like, but not really a major issue. Loved the locally made soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Breakfast was GREAT. Homemade quiche/eggs Benedict/pastries/banana bread etc, different every day and all really good. Supplemented by cereals, oatmeal, toast, spreads, fresh fruit. There's a small food coop/grocery across the street, and the wonderful St Roch Market food court a block away, if walking a few blocks to the vast amounts of great food available elsewhere in New Orleans is too much trouble. This was just an all-round great experience for me. Nancy was always there to help if needed (the only real problem I had was locking myself out of my room one night) and had plenty of good advice and recommendations for things to do. Highly recommended.

It doesn't get any better. Nancy is a warm and welcoming host, very willing to help make the most of your stay in New Orleans. The B & B itself is tastefully decorated and our room was very comfortable with lots of little extras- hot tub, doorway to the patio, kitchen- that we really appreciated. Location was ideal for our needs, close to the French Quarter but also to other neighborhoods we wanted to explore. We met and enjoyed guests from all over the world. All in all a most wonderful stay which we are eager to repeat soon!

Other than being a bit farther from Jackson Square than I might have wished, I found Auld Sweet Olive to be an excellent lodging for a trip to New Orleans. Nancy was exceptionally helpful, and her handout of restaurants in the neighborhood was very helpful as the 3 we tried were excellent.

High ceilings, elegant parlor and dining area we were free to enjoy at any time, gorgeous room (super soft sheets!), great shower, private patio etc. The location is perfect - near Frenchmen Street just a short walk away -- and so many beautiful homes in the Marigny to look at. Very highly recommend the Auld Sweet Olive and its charming inn-keeper, Nancy.

Where to even begin? What an amazing experience it was staying here. I've never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, but after such a wonderful time here, I would certainly do it again in the future. Nancy went above and beyond creating a clean, friendly, and hospitable environment. The rooms were gorgeous and clean. Nancy and Jim saw to my every need before I could even ask. Both were knowledgeable about the area and gave me excellent tips to make the most of my time in their wonderful city. Their suggestions helped make this probably the greatest vacation I've ever had. Without question, this is where I will stay on all my future visits to New Orleans. Close to Frenchman street, with a market across the street. Auld Sweet Olive can't be beat!!!

We stayed in the Palmetto room for 4 nights and fell in love with the Auld Sweet Olive and with New Orleans. The house is beautiful, full of interesting antiques and mementoes of Nancy, the owner's, previous career in TV production. Our room was really comfortable with an en-suite and direct access to the lovely courtyard. Nancy is a mine of information about the where to go and listen to music or to eat and also arranged an excellent swamp tour for us. Breakfasts are generous and there's an honour bar and a lovely sitting room as well. The surrounding area is largely residential, so very quiet, but you're only a few blocks from Frenchmen Street which is a far nicer venue for food, drinks and music than Bourbon Street which is pretty tacky. Still easy walking to the French Quarter though and we didn't use the car or taxis at all in our stay. We will be back to New Orleans and I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else when we're there.

Nancy is a most gracious hostess. You'll feel like family when staying at Auld Sweet Olive. The nearby St. Roch's Market is a must for foodies. The home is beautifully decorated with intriguing wall murals, and although our room was small, it was accommodating, clean and lovely. Appreciated the dedicated bathroom and outdoor/patio access we had into the courtyard. The breakfasts were not extravagant, but delightfully seasonal and tasty - and more than enough to satisfy until dinnertime. Our hosts were thoughtful and engaged, and I would recommend Auld Sweet Olive to anyone looking for a welcoming, warm stay.

My boyfriend and I were travelling in New Orleans for just over a week. We usually do hostels but we thought we'd treat ourselves for a couple of night. This place was a treat. It was amazing! Nancy was so welcoming, allowing us to check in early, providing us information about sites and restaurants. Not one detail is missed. From the art on the walls to the organic shampoo in the showers, this place is a gem. And it's in a fantastic area. Accross the street from a wonderful grocery and down the road from St. Roch market (a must see). I highly recommend this b&b for all! I will definitely be back.

We are two young teachers who were looking to spend a slow-paced but fun weekend in New Orleans and Sweet Olive was the perfect balance. The location is great to get away from the hustle and bustle but a easy walk to the middle of the Quarter. Nancy was so wonderful - she had great suggestions on where to go and what to do, made delicious breakfast treats, and was so pleasant to chat with! The Courtyard Suite was gorgeous and worth every penny. I will recommend this B&B to anyone I hear going to Nola from now on!

My family and I are return visitors at Auld Sweet Olive. We met there again recently and had one unexpected adventure after another! Nancy made arrangements for us to do the Scandalous Cocktail tour and she joined us to check it out - a bit hokey but so much fun!! We shared our first absinthe together. My family stumbled upon a police blockade on our way to dinner one night to find a parade - a bicycle parade - omg it was a Naked Bicycle Parade! Hubby was a little nervous at first then offered to drive closer so our daughter could get a better video. Just another day in New Orleans. Come with an adventuresome spirit enjoy your stay at a very special place you'll think of as your home. We love you, Nancy! Look forward to staying with you again real soon.

Wonderful stay at this great B&B. Nancy Gunn, Owner, was gracious, very helpful and made us feel welcomed. We intended to stay for one night, but when our flight was cancelled the following day due to a storm, we frantically called Nancy later that day! They were to be closed for that night only, but Nancy said it would be fine for us to stay, We were so relieved and grateful we did not have to search for another place to stay that night. The room was beautifully furnished, spacious, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was modern and nice. Breakfast was great, buffet style, with delicious, warm artichoke quiche, breads, muffins, cereals, fresh fruit, juice, anything you would want for breakfast. The spacious dining room and living room were beautiful and very comfortable.. There is a nice front porch to sit on, and a side yard with tables and chairs. The property is fenced, with a locked gate for security. Nancy recommended several local restaurants, which were very good. We went to The Franklin for dinner, and it was excellent! We definitely recommend Auld Sweet Olive B&B, and hope to stay there again on our next trip to NOLA!

Auld Sweet Olive was wonderful. Nancy the Innkeeper was gracious, informative and welcoming. The b&b itself is very tastefully decorated and has a lot of character. The "honor system" bar where you put a few dollars in the cookie jar for each drink you take was a very cute and convenient touch. Breakfasts were great too and had much more options than other NOLA b&b's I've stayed at (including lighter options). It is a relatively short walk from the French Quarter and an even shorter walk to Frenchmen Street (which we preferred anyways). I'd highly recommend the Auld Sweet Olive B&B to anybody visiting New Orleans looking to be in a quieter area than Bouron Street etc.

This is the 2nd year in a row I have stayed at Auld Sweet Olive B&B, and, like last year, my stay was very nice. The rooms are very clean and nice; the beds are quite comfortable; and Nancy, the Innkeeper, is also very nice and very knowledgable about NOLA. Breakfast is also very good, with a different feature prepared fresh every morning. I highly recommend Auld Sweet Olive for anyone's visit to New Orleans.

Staying at Auld Sweet Olive Bed & Breakfast exceeded my expectations. The property itself has a rich. French creole history and is decorated with beautiful antiques. My husband and I stayed at Sweet Olive for a long weekend at the start of Mardi Gras. First, the location is great. It's only a 10-12 minute walk to the French Quarter ... just close enough to not be inconvenient, but far enough away to get away from the occasional craziness. The rooms were as presented on the website, the food was outstanding, and the host, Nancy, was fabulous. She hosted a Mardi Gras party for friends and family during our stay and invited all her guests to attend as well. Her sense of hospitality was amazing and made our first trip to New Orleans very special.

My husband and our daughter and her husband had an amazing stay with Nancy (and little Charlotte) at Auld Sweet Olive. The location in the Marigny neighborhood is absolutely perfect. An easy walk to Frenchman Street and Bourbon St/ French Quarter without the crowds and grime. A sweet little friendly neighborhood respite to return home to after a day or night among the revelers. We enjoyed everything about the B & B including the charming gardens, Nancy's amazing meals and treats, our connecting rooms with handpainted walls..... Nancy even included us in a neighborhood pre- parade party for all of her neighbors. It seriously felt like home. And as others have said, the best part of all was Nancy's graciousness and kindness. We couldn't have had a more perfect long weekend.

Beautiful house!! We stayed in the biggest room which felt very private and spacious. We loved the location since you get an actual impression of where people live instead of just being amongst tourists. We walked almost everything and otherwise cabs were cheap. Two less positive points as well though: We had expected a little more from breakfast, more variety/fresh/organic. It was quite cold and rainy when we were there and the room was supercold!! So we had to put on this sort of electric heater a lot, but it was a lot of noise and made the air very dry.

We did a lot of research to find the Sweet Olive...and we are glad we did. First, you cannot beat this location. You are a short walk from Frenchman St., and yet in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. Second, you cannot beat the people. Nancy and her team are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. And then you are surrounded by quality, including the room decor, common areas and morning buffet. (It's not a "full breakfast", but the food is excellent, including home-made quiche and other baked items.)

Auld Sweet Olive is a lovely B & B in the Marigny section. It is clean, cozy, and quiet, and Nancy the owner is a lovely, warm, welcoming and talented woman. The breakfast was tasty. I had plane tix to NOLA for early November, but couldn't find a place to say for under $700/night! I had reached out to several B & B's asking them to please let me know if they were to get a cancellation, and at the last minute Nancy did, so I was able to go visit my son. A+ across the board!

Really warm and comfortable place. It was a little "off the beaten path" but if you don't mind walking or prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist section then this is the place for you. Nancy is really a lovely hostess and is good at knowing when you want to chat and when you would just rather be left alone. Our favorite part were the linens. Petty that the breakfast is so bad from a nutrition point of view (yes I know I'm not speaking on behalf of the typical American) with high sugar content, white carbs and no real alternative given to those of us that really care to eat a nutrient and we'll balanced breakfast. You can do better. Said that the home made pastries were delicious, in particular the banana pie.

My mom and I spent 5 days at this Bed and Breakfast. We were greeted by the owner upon arrival, she took us to our room and gave us a tour. This is a beautiful home that is over 100 years old. Despite that there is no musky smell, AC in all rooms, each room has a private bath and it is clean! The location is great, it took less than 10 minutes to walk to the French Quarter so we were close enough to enjoy the action but able to get a good nights sleep. The neighbourhood is extremely safe and we walked back and forth day or night. The food is prepared on site by the owner, it included yogurt, juice, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, cereal, numerous types of baking and always a hot dish(keish, peach oatmeal and granola, eggs). We had a wonderful stay and would absolutely go back. The only thing you might need to know is there is NO TV, however, there are tons of book to borrow and a lovely, fenced in outdoor sitting area.

Located around 15 min easy walk from the French quarter in a historic part of town, this is an oasis from the fun (and craziness). Frenchmen Street is only 7-10 min walk away and has some fabulous night time dining and music. Nancy is amazing and not only provides a fantastic stay (complete with the best breakfast we had in a month traveling the US), but is extremely helpful and provides great info about which tours would suit your needs and which restaurants to try out. The house and rooms are impeccably clean and very comfortable. If you want 24/7 craziness, perhaps stay a bit closer, but if you want to have fun, see the sights, enjoy the delights and still be able to get a good nights sleep, I would highly recommend the Sweet Olive!

We chose this to be in more of a regular neighborhood but close to Frenchmen St. and the French Quarter. It is an easy 10 minute walk to the former and 15 to 20 minutes to the French Quarter. The house and room was very nice and we thought reasonably priced (as reasonable goes during Jazz Fest). We also enjoyed the neighborhood very much.

Nancy Gunn is the dearest, kindest and most gracious hostess imaginable. And she is so much fun.

I greatly enjoyed my stay at the Auld Sweet Olive. The B&B is very nice, with hard wood floors and tall (12'?) ceilings. It's very quiet. Nancy is very nice and helpful. It was nice talking with her, and she has great tips for where to eat or what to see and do. And the breakfast in the morning is also quite good. My only problem is that I only stayed for 3 nights! It was too short of a trip. I highly recommend Auld Sweet Olive; when I go back to New Orleans, I'll stay here again.

I was not ready to go home after this 3 day weekend. My stay was delightful because of the beautiful place to stay, the room, garden and public space is very welcoming and comfortable. Just like home. This is a walkable, safe neighborhood, and the morning treats were amazing. I'll be back!

Spent 6 nights at the end of March and loved our stay. Nancy is the quintessential hostess, providing lovely breakfasts and helpful advice on all that New Orleans has to offer. By the end of the week we felt we had made a new friend. She had even baked a German chocolate cake for my husband's birthday! The inn's quiet location in the Marigny district is only a few block's walk through colorful and interesting neighborhoods to great music and food in the French Quarter. There are a number of good small cafes within a block or two for an afternoon coffee. We fell in love with NOLA and hope to return soon. We will stay at Auld Sweet Olive again.

My wife and I spent three nights in late March and this was the first visit for both of us to New Orleans. We were looking for a quiet place near, but not in, the French Quarter and the Auld Sweet Olive was a perfect choice. The house is magnificent with large rooms with high ceilings beautifully decorated by the former owner who was an artist. We stayed in the Garden Suite which is spacious and has both a private entrance through the garden and a door leading to the rest of the house. The common areas in the house were particularly impressive and comfortable with lots of guidebooks and other New Orleans info in the large living room. Breakfast was enjoyable both for the food and the interesting company since the other guests were mainly European travelers. The owner, who lives upstairs with her young daughter, provided lots of helpful information on restaurants and attractions and plenty of friendly conversation when we were in the mood to chat. The walk to the French Quarter was 10-15 minutes through a safe neighborhood with lots of interesting houses, and there is a supply of umbrellas in the front hall available for guest use. My wife and I watch very little TV so the fact that there was no TV in the room was of no consequence to us but, if you can't live without ESPN, this would not be the place for you. There is, however, free WiFi that proved completely reliable. We would highly recommend the Auld Sweet Olive. It was a great place to stay and was good value as well.

This is a great place. Nancy is a fantastic land lady. Warm and helpful. The rooms are very nice with comfortable beds. The breakfast is great with home baked every day. The area is nice and quiet with just a minutes walk to several nice bars/restaurants. To Frenchmen Street with all its great music it only takes max 10 minutes to walk.

We were a party of 6 occupying 3 rooms at the Sweet Olive for one week. Nancy provided good breakfasts to start our days and offered good information on things to see and places to eat. The location was really great for us as there was about a 15 minute walk to the downtown action but also easy access to the interstate highways for day trips outside of New Orleans. Although there is no on-site parking we were always able to park in front of or very close to the B&B. We had great family vacation.

My girlfriends and I stayed for five nights and absolutely loved Sweet Olive. Nancy was kind and hospitable and really made the place feel like home. Breakfast was different each day and we all enjoyed experiencing the charm of this antiquated yet modern home. Sweet Olive is a hidden little gem just outside of the French Quarter and allowed us to walk to our destinations within 15 minutes. The nights we took cabs, our fare was never more than $10. I highly recommend Sweet Olive for a little getaway. We had a blast!

Had a wonderful long weekend at the Sweet Olive. Nancy is a great host, and the staff was very helpful. Breakfast was a treat, in addition to standard staples, there were fresh baked goods, fruit and a hot dish every day. The house is wonderful and rooms are very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

I have stayed several times over the last few months. I usually travel alone when coming to New Orleans and stay here because Nancy and her staff make everything so easy and pleasant. I brought my family for several days over the Christmas holidays and it felt like we were in our own home, only I didn't have to cook! Namcy's breakfasts will make you want to hang around all morning.

Nancy greeted us and was available over our stay to give info on the area--she is an amazing host and even made us a homemade kingcake. This house is amazing! So beautifully decorated, so comfortable. I felt like I was staying at a friend's house. Thank you, Nancy!

We recently stayed 3 nights and so enjoyed everything. Nancy (and Jim) were great hosts. The home was beautiful. Breakfast was delicious every morning. Nancy even made us a King Cake! It was really special. Loved staying with a host who provided us with information about places to see and eat. Never sent us in the wrong direction. Friendly and fun neighborhood within easy walking distance. No problem (or charge) for parking. Definitely, if you have the chance, stay at Auld Sweet Olive B&B. So appreciated the King Cake and the Kumquat preserves Jim sent us home with. Made that morning from the kumquat tree in the courtyard!

Owner of B&B, Nancy Gunn, was very gracious and provided heart-felt apologies for problems with electricity/heat during a bad cold snap in New Orleans. We were delighted with the rooms, breakfast was delicious and very filling. We will be telling everyone headed to N.O. to stay at the Auld Sweet Olive. Easy walking to the French Quarter and close-by restaurants made it easier to deal with ice.

I stayed only one night with my partner and we had the room that has its own outside entrance to the side garden. Even though it rained the room and stay were wonderful. Nancy was very accommodating to allow us to stay just one night on a busy holiday weekend. The feather pillows that were requested were wonderful and the tub/shower provided a warm and wonderful way to start my day. Breakfast was yummy and we enjoyed meeting the other guests. Thank you Nancy for having us and I know we will be back!

From the first time you walk through the gate, you feel welcomed and at-home. The housekeeper and inn-keeper were both very friendly and did their best to be sure you had everything you needed to be most comfortable. The house and it's rooms were very charming and the location was wonderful. The neighborhood was quiet and off the regular path, but it was still in a convenient location to main attractions. The morning breakfast had a variety of breads, fruits, cereals to chose from along with a hot dish each morning. I would certainly stay here again.

This was our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast. We were unsure what to expect. We have been visiting New Orleans for many years now and have always stayed in hotels. This was by FAR the BEST New Orleans trip/stay ever. Auld Sweet Olive was a perfect place to celebrate 10 years of marriage. It was quiet, peaceful and just far enough but within walking distance to the busy city of New Orleans. The staff; especially Ms Nancy, were so amazing and made us feel so welcomed. We will most definitely be making reservations again soon at Auld Sweet Olive Bed and Breakfast.
4,4 sur novembre 07, 2013
We had a great weekend at the Sweet Olive. My group stayed in three of the rooms. All of the beds were comfortable. The Courtyard Suite was very spacious and has a great setup. The Palmetto room has a really small bathroom so if you want more space, choose one of the other rooms. The common areas were very comfortable and the outside patio even has a hammock to relax after a long day. Nancy, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. She provided directions and area recommendations and made us feel at home during our stay. Her breakfast was great. In addition to the standard continental items, Nancy made a yummy egg dish each morning along with homemade treats like banana chocolate chip bread or pumpkin spice scones. It was just over a mile walk to the center of the French Quarter so it was very easy to get to but far enough away that it was quiet. We took cab rides back at night which was very easy. We will definitely stay there again if we get the chance.

I have stayed at the Sweet Olive before but this time we met the new owner and she was just absolutely a joy to be around. It was fantastic to see the posters and pictures on the wall of shows I have watched. It was great to met Nancy and great to see what a truly genuine person and down to earth! I've never felt so at home as I did at the sweet olive. The previous owners are great but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the great changes made. This has always been a must stop in New Orleans and will continue to be our tradition to stop at this location! Looking forward to our next visit. Sue and Earnest Vinson

We absolutely loved staying at Sweet Olive. We knew we didn't want to stay in the French Quarter so when a friend recommended Auld Sweet Olive I immediately booked it. The owner, Nancy, was so lovely and accommodating and took lots of time with us when we arrived to explain the neighborhood, give us maps, and tell us her favorite local spots to explore. The house has a rich history and is really beautiful. The breakfast was delicious and Nancy's baked goods are out of this world. I'm pretty sure all of the negative reviews are from before Nancy was the owner as I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience with her! If you're going to New Orleans I highly recommend a stay at Auld Sweet Olive. Great neighborhood, walking distance from Frenchman Street, the French Quarter and less touristy spots like the Bywater district. We slept well, were well fed in the morning and had a great experience at Sweet Olive!

It “only” took us a year to make it to New Orleans…I’d planned a birthday trip for my boyfriend in October 2012, but due to unforeseen circumstances ended up cancelling. Fast forward to October 2013 when I finally rebooked the trip and happily stumbled upon the Auld Sweet Olive. From my first interaction with Nancy, the Innkeeper, I realized what a special place I’d found. I asked if Nancy might be able to put together a birthday basket with some wine and other goodies for when we arrived. The only guidance I provided was a general type of wine and the price point I’d like to spend. The basket couldn’t have been more perfect. Pralines, beads, Mardi Gras favors, an umbrella (for Tropical Storm Karen that was making her way onshore), Saints gear and rain ponchos and of course, a fantastic bottle of wine. Nancy greeted us warmly, and instantly we felt like we were at a friend’s home. She is in her element as an Innkeeper, though admittedly, I suspect that Nancy likely succeeds at anything she puts her mind to. We were excited to see what was in store for breakfast, having read about Nancy’s deft hand as a baker. Eggs in the hole, scones, muffins, goat cheese tart, fruit, yogurt, nut breads, coffees, teas, juice...delicious. We dragged ourselves out of bed before 10am after some fairly late nights so as not to miss these treats! We chose the Olive Room which true to its photos and description was spacious, clean, comfortable and quaint. Loved the handmade soap and the fantastic bed linens and pillows! The private exit to the patio proved especially delightful for sitting outside in the mornings and for wine in the evening. The taxi service suggested by the B&B was great and inexpensive. The neighborhood was safe and artsy; we walked most everywhere including the French Quarter and the lovely and less touristy Frenchman street. I could go on, but suffice it to say we will be back to the Auld Sweet Olive and you should book your room today!

Several friends and I recently stayed at Sweet Olive for a long weekend of music and food in our beloved NOLA. This is a very comfortable, friendly, easy place to stay. Nancy the proprietor is relaxed, organized, and ready with just the right tip about how to make the best of your time. How different it was staying in a place with a resident guide and NOLA enthusiast--I encourage you to ask her for assistance--she is at your service. Nicely furnished, good breakfast, great sitting room and comfortable, private garden for [quiet] late night review of the day's events over a glass of wine. Treat yourself to a homelike oasis.

We spent 5 nights while visiting our son in New Orleans. It was exactly what we needed as it provided walking access to food and music in Marigny and the French Quarter as well as the streetcars to get downtown and to the Arts and Garden districts. We also had a quick drive to some terrific restaurants in the Bywater. Nancy was a wonderful host and quickly got you situated and familiar with the B&B as well as providing a packet of information on things to do and places to eat. Then there were the wonderful breakfasts where many guests got to meet and share their experiences. There is also an organic market across the street in case you need to pick something up. We definitely got a flavor of New Orleans that we would have missed had we stayed in the French Quarter, downtown, or the Garden District.

We completed loved our visit. The rooms were comfortable and a great value. Every morning we woke up to fresh baked treats, including a surprise birthday cake for our guests. Nancy provided everything we needed in the most gracious way. I've been to New Orleans MANY times but this was my first to stay in the Marigny neighborhood. I just arrived back from a three night stay in New Orleans at the Sweet Olive B &B. My friend and I enjoyed our stay very much! We followed up on all of Nancy's recommendations for dinner and shopping and truly had a unique New Orleans experience. She is a wonderful hostess, very accommodating, and when asked for recommendations, did not steer us towards all of the typical tourist-y attractions. The whole home is comfortable, clean, and decorated tastefully. The fresh fruit and home baked breakfast options had us going back for seconds! We definitely will be staying at the Sweet Olive anytime we are back in New Orleans! Highly recommended to all!

I stayed in the Palmetto room at Auld Sweet Olive Bed and Breakfast for 4 nights with my boyfriend this August. The room itself has palm murals painted on the walls and the rest of the house is also beautifully decorated. Nancy was the perfect host and gave us lots of information about things to do and places to eat and drink in the local area as well as farther afield. She gave us such a warm welcome that we instantly felt at home and the breakfast each morning with home baked goods and freshly cooked eggs was great to set us up for the day. If we come back to New Orleans we would definitely stay here again!

In many establishments the owners/managers will say "Make yourself at Home" or "Just ask if you need anything", sometimes you know as the words are leaving their lips that should you be bold enough to ask for running water in the bathroom or a bed to sleep on that you will be met with a look that renders AC unnecessary. Nancy really means it and delivers on the promise. It makes for such a relaxing stay. She also cooks the breakfasts. Baking is her speciality except the bagels (well no-one's perfect!) Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

This was a great place to stay for our honeymoon in New Orleans. Nancy is an amazing owner, so hospitable and kind and helpful. She made our stay so comfortable, and our room was awesome. We were in the courtyard suite, which was like a cute little apartment that had everything - we didn't even have to leave it to have a good time! The absolute only complaint, and nothing against the B&B itself, is the walk to the French Quarter, is just the right length where to walk it is a little too long and tiresome, so we took a cab most of the time. But, much closer and more authentic was Frenchman Street with good music and restaurants as well, so we were there a lot. Absolutely I'd recommend this stay and look forward to coming back.

Sweet Olive is a historic Bed an Breakfast, in an artsy part of town. My room had a hand painted mural, that made it feel like a fairy land (Magnolia Room) The owner could easily be a pastry chef full time, so breakfast is to die for. We were given recommendations everyday, where to eat, what to see; it felt like an insiders view of New Orleans, as unique as the city itself.

This is a beautiful older home, specially cared for and maintained. It’s tastefully decorated, yet you don't feel like you're entering a museum. I felt as if one might expect Mark Twain could saunter quietly around a corner and settle into a front porch chair. The new owner-operator is a gracious hostess – Nancy Gunn, who made us feel appreciated and welcome in her home. The Sweet Olive Bed and Breakfast is located in a good location of the Faubourg-Marigny, where walking around the immediate neighborhood I felt safe and charmed by the many small businesses close by. Our room (the Sweet Olive room) was large with a high ceiling, and convenient as it had a second private entrance with chairs on the stoop to enjoy the breeze. Sleeping was enhanced by a great quality bed and bedding, with enough pillows. I would have liked a small chair in the room, somewhere to sit while taking off shoes. In the front parlor there is an extensive handy reference library with an intriguing provenance and a reading library with many of the writings of Mark Twain. The location to Sweet Olive is a $33 taxi ride from the airport, the standard fee. From the front door leads a comfortable walk into the French Quarter, with the sights and sounds of Frenchmen street and interesting, historic neighborhoods. We further appreciated that the owner was accommodating with our travel plans, as we split up our stay to attend a wedding about an hour away. We enjoyed tasty breakfasts every morning offered with very good coffee and a quiet spot to enjoy it. We would definitely return, and found it a good value. Staying at this B&B felt much more personal and actually created a unique sense of place!

Nancy at Sweet Olive is great! She makes the place feel very warm and homey. And she makes delicious things for breakfast (but, this is not a European b&b, so don't expect a big spread). Sweet Olive is a good, affordable place to stay and is a comfortable walk to Frenchman Street (great area!) and a bit further to the FQ. It has some sketchy areas not far from it, but my boyfriend and I had no problems. And you can easily call a cab to come and take you into town. One advantage is the area of town is quiet, so you get away from all the downtown NOLA craziness. We didn't spend much time at the b&b itself, but it's a great place to chill if you want to--there is a nice porch and garden area that is beautiful. No tub room, though, despite what the website says...(it's been turned into a storage area). The only issue I had with Sweet Olive was the noisiness. We were woken up by the breakfast preparation (we were in the room adjacent to the dining area), and the structure is old so you can hear EVERYTHING that happens in the hall and communal areas. Ask for a different room if you're a light sleeper.

the recent opening of The Healing Center just across the street, with shops , a fine restaurant and a great venue, Cafe Istanbul, for music, theater, and readings. We stayed April 20-22 and had a wonderful time. Nancy was an exceptional host and so nice to us! Our room was amazing, we stayed in the Sweet Olive room. The house was beautiful with an amazing garden. Our room had a private patio overlooking all the flowers and wonderful landscaping. The neighborhood was very quiet for being so close to the chaos you can find on Bourbon and not far of a walk at all! From the B&B you can walk to a neat coffee shop/cafe called Who Dat and also a tasty Greek restuarant. I would recommend Sweet Olive B&B to anyone and everyone! It was a wonderful experience!

It was far enough away from the craziness of the French Quarter and it's nestled in the midst of the Marigny district, which has a cozy neighborhood feel.

Stay was excellent. Had concerns about the neiborhood prior to arriving, but found we had nothing o worry about. Close to the Quarter and the facility across the street was really great.

I spent hours researching accommodations in the New Orleans area. This was, by far, the absolute best value I came across. Before arriving, I was actually worried it might all be too good too good to be true. But Sweet Olive was even MORE than I could have asked for! -Unbeatable price -One of a kind decor -Free parking! -Walking distance from all tourist sites (about 10 min walk from French Quarter) -Free breakfast and afternoon snacks :) -Honor bar with wine, beer, and soda in the kitchen -Wonderful, informative, accessible hosts! This was my first trip to New Orleans, and I will never stay anywhere else on future trips. Highly recommended to couples or other small, low-key groups.

We arrived early and didn't dig through the Mardi Gras beads to find the doorbell on the gate but Jessica was never-the-less very welcoming as we hollered and waved at her the length of the property. We only briefly met one of our hosts, who was quite cordial, but Jessica went over and above every day we were there (even washing my souvenir plastic cup collection!) The only issue we had was barely visable (if you've had more than two drinks) steps from the bathroom to the main part of the suite. My somewhat clumsy husband managed to miss them on two separate occasions. Luckily, he was slightly sedated and pretty limber both times. :-) Oh wait- the other issue was that they did not accept the B&B.com gift certs as they said the B&B owners were charged too much to use them. But it was still a good value and I'd still stay there again.

Great accommodations in a neighborhood setting in a most charming city. David's morning chats over coffee really made us feel at home in a neighborhood and city that he truly cares for.

I stayed here in December for a few days. The owners are very welcoming and the room was very clean and well decorated. The side entrance directly into the room was very convenient and the patio would be perfect in warmer weather. Its location was ideal to enjoy Marigny and the French Quarter.

I stayed in their Cypress Room and was pleasantly surprised by how comforting the house felt, the size of the room, the comfort of the bed and pillows, and the cleanliness! The sheets and and towels had a great detergent fragrance and the towels were changed daily. Also, they provided hand made soap, a lovely surprise! The shower in my room was a little too small, but there is a larger bathroom with a large tub that is available for guests to use. The hosts are incredible friendly and helpful and the property is secured by a gate (great for keeping bicycles safe at night). There is a comfortable outdoor garden and porch too! It is only a 10 min walk from the French Quarter yet far enough to have peace and quite during the nights. There is also a new health center across the street with yoga classes, a supermarket, and bookstore; great for snakes or cook books! I will definitely return!

We spent 3 nights in the Palmetto room here and had a really wonderful time. The location is remarkably convenient - only about 5 blocks (a quick walk) to all that Frenchmen St. has to offer and the Quarter just past that. The neighborhood has some lovely coffee shops and architecture to enjoy on your way to the thick of it and the hosts provide a really helpful guide highlighting much of what there is to see and do in the area. The Palmetto room is really lovely - cute and well kept with a private entrance that takes you onto a beautiful little patio with a citrus tree. Two small things to keep in mind about this room specifically: it is right off of the kitchen and people begin coming and going for breakfast around 7:30am. It was never too loud, but we were aware of it. Also, the show is European style (with a hand held shower head) - we thought this was really fun actually, but might be problematic for some. The only real reason we list dining lower is that breakfast (including the coffee) is all cleaned up by 10am. While I'm sure this is normal, we're late sleepers (particularly in New Orleans!) and would have loved a hot coffee a bit later. All said though it was an incredible deal, a beautiful place to stay, and everyone there was just lovely! Highly recommended!

Our party of four took up four rooms at this comfy, clean, hospitable, and wonderfully decorated B&B. The location (Marigny) is nice as it's only about a 10 minute walk to the Quarter and just blocks to the very entertaining Frenchman Street. Jessica and her daughter greeted us upon check in and they were both so warm and sweet. They gave us an "in house" newsletter that has Dale and Dave's reviews of restaurants and sites, as well as a map, which we greatly appreciated. Dale and Dave were just as wonderful and personable, too. They all let you know they're there if you need anything, yet they are never intrusive. Being it was around Christmas, the home was very nicely decorated to reflect the holiday. The home has high ceilings, a very cool main hallway decorated with framed artwork of New Orleans events of the past and present, and the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The bath room (not bathroom, but a room with just a bathtub) is a nice perk and you will find lots of thoughtful amenities throughout the house. We enjoyed the variety of goodies in the mornings and caught some freshly popped popcorn on a couple of evenings. We all really liked sitting out on the porch to unwind after returning from a late night out. I wish Dale and Dave an adventurous, loving and safe 2013 and to Jessica and her daughter a prosperous year filled with love. And of course, I would definitely stay at the Auld Sweet Olive B&B again.

We cannot say enough about the hospitality shown by owners Dale and David plus their housekeeper/hostess Jessica. We stayed in the Magnolia/Oak Room suite and it was perfect in every way. We had a car and parking was easy across the street. A very short drive from the French Quarter and other neighborhoods. Jessica provided a variety of breakfast choices and we had our choice of eating in the dining room or outside patio. Dale and David are passionate about their city and gave us info and tips that took us to where the locals go for music and food. We only had four days but, we filled each day and were happy and exhausted as we returned to our pleasant rooms at Sweet Olive. We will return. Cleveland, Ohio

This was one of the best b&b's we've stayed in. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the owners who had communicated prior to our arrival. The rooms were amazing and the facilities were fantastic. We were basically in a home from home and left to use the facilities as was needed. The introduction to the b&b was informative and we needed very little help during our stay in one of the best destinations we have visited. One of the best and highly recommended to anyone visiting the area.

my wife and i were pleasantly suprised by what we found at sweet olive. our hosts were super friendly and accomidating. the attention to detail is better than any hotel you will ever stay at for under 500$. the room was clean and well equiped. the best part about this place is its authenticity. it is a real new orleans house in a real new orleans neighborhood. close enough to the french quarter but far enough away to avoid the noise and crowds. we will definitely stay here from now on when we are in new orleans and would highly recommend sweet olive to anyone who wishes to see more of new orleans than just the touristic french quarter.

As a b&b virgin, I truly wasn't 100% sure what to expect. However I can honestly say that my experience was absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to return. The place is located just far enough away from the madness of the Quarter but still close enough so you don't feel like you've traveled all over the world to get there. Both Dave and Dale were super friendly and offered plenty of advice on local flavor. They are proud of their neighborhood and it shows. I do regret that I did not get to meet Miss Clara due to her recent passing. However, in her place is her personally trained neice, Jess. She's wonderful!!! And knows her stuff and is more than happy to chat with you and tell you about her aunt, the neighborhood, etc. I didn't want to leave but as they say, all good things must come to an end. I look forward to my next visit and I hope it's soon! Word to the wise - either bring or rent a bike. It's the only way to see this part of the world other than hoofing it!

I was very pleased with the overall accommodations. We had a wonderful stay, just too short. The B&B is on a nice area, not too expensive to go to downtown with a taxi if you don't want to drive. We had 2 rooms, with private bathroom each one. The B&B is on a same level, there is just few steps on the porch, which make it very easy to my father who have trouble to walk. The welcome was very friendly as one of the owners waited for us to welcome us and show us the house. The rooms were very nice, specially mine, and it make me feel I was in a plantation mansion. You have a kitchen specially for the guest, which is very nice with all you can need. You even have drinks, beer or wine for just 1$ you pay on the pot. And you have access 24h. Breakfast was superbe, with so many choice and good things. Just writing this review and my mouth is watering. Room price was very reasonable as we are in NO. there is also a big leaving room and a garden, but we were too busy going around New Orleans to have the time to try it. The only sad new is that Dale & David are looking to sell the house, so I hope that next owners will keep the spirit of this superbe B&B. So, in any case, do not hesitate to stay there, you will love it. Patricia.

Sweet Olive is lovely. From the cheery yellow exterior and the lush gardens in which to relax with some sweet tea to the grand foyer covered in the many memorabilia of Mardi Gras' past mixed with collections of family history to the cozy, tidy and tastefully decorated rooms with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Dale and David were impeccable hosts eager to help us make the most of our stay. I'd been exposed to the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood on an earlier trip and staying at Sweet Olive enabled me to explore this eclectic and beautiful neighborhood further. An added bonus I feel is worthy a mention is the awesome organic food co-op/grocery across the street. Because of my numerous dietary restrictions it was a blessing I could simply walk across the street for provisions. It should also be mentioned there is ample street parking if you have a car. Sweet Olive is a short pleasant walk from the famed Frenchmen St. And a short, cheap taxi ride to the French Quarter should you decide not to hoof it. Thank you Dale & David!

I recently booked this bed and breakfast in its entirety for a group for a spiritual weekend. The group is largely comprised of writers, actors, film-makers and arts professionals. The LOVED the environment and have all told me that they will stay again when they return to New Orleans. Dale was particularly charming and accommodating. When we had to pick up the younger members of the party late, they were flexible and understanding. A great value for a one of a kind experience!!

My stay was phenomenal. The owners, Dave and Dale, made the place warm and welcoming. Situated in the Marigny Quarter, this B&B is well situated for people who like to sit at a café to read or type (there are many around). My only complaint (my fault, really) was that I was allergic to the one room with carpeting. Other than that, I was astounded by the spaciousness of the house. I've usually stayed in smaller places. Dave and Dale provided valuable insight and tailored their suggestions to my needs and wants. Thanks to their suggestions, I got to see many neat places in town I otherwise never would have discovered. I've ended up staying a month, and I hope to do so again in the near future. Clean, nice, with good services (I loved the idea of paying a dollar for a beer out of the fridge, for example), and barely a 20 min walk from the French Quarter, I leave New Orleans with found memories of this place. I hope you will feel at home as much as I did.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had the Suite with Jacuzzi. The Suite was bigger than we've expected. Very comfortable bed, direct access to the terasse and delicious muffins for breakfast. The only thing i can complain is, that there was white animal hair on the carpet. I still can't get ist totally removed from the socks. The owners were absolutely friendly. When we return to New Orleans we'll definitely stay at the Auld Sweet Olive B&B again.

We stayed in a bigger and nicer room this time. Love the atmosphere of this place. It is off the beaten path but there are plenty of paths to explore in the Fauborg Marigny where the Sweet Oliver is located. Breakfast is good for most B&B's without being stuffy or having to endure "forced socialization". Very relaxed atmosphere.

This is a fantastic b&b that is full of character - myself and three other ladies stayed here recently for four nights. For anyone looking for a real taste of New Orleans without the sterility of a generic hotel, this is the place for you. Dale and David were diligent in making sure we had directions and guidance about local things to do if we asked for it. This house is within walking distance of the French Quarter, Bourbon Street and the waterfronts, but not so close as to feel like you are surrounded by tourists. The owners recommend a taxi back at night if you stay out past dark, but it's a quick ride. Many thanks to the owners, we had a fantastic and memorable trip to NOLA!

Great place, very solid location only about a 12 minute walk from the center of the French Quarter. Owners stay out of your way, services were slim to none and the breakfast was nothing but a few bagels and cold coffee all three days we stayed there. But, you dont go to New Orleans and eat in B&B's anyway, so not a big deal. Would stay there again for sure.
Réponse du propriétaire
We're delighted to hear that you'd stay with us again but troubled by the breakfast experience you report. Each morning we put out a selection of pastries, including bagels, along with cereal, fruit, and yogurt. We typically go through several pots of coffee each morning which we serve from an insulated pump that normally keeps the coffee hot for hours. So we're not sure how this might have happened, but promise to keep an extra vigilant eye on the breakfast provisions. City regulations in New Orleans, by the way, require that B&Bs have a restaurant license to serve a hot breakfast, so most like us, serve a continental breakfast. Thanks for your feedback.

Auld Sweet Lang is everything you could ever hope for in a bed and breakfast. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and it is located in a lovely area of the city. My experience here was by far the best I have ever had at any B&B, and I would recommend anyone stay here. You just can't beat the location and the price! It's located in the more quiet, trendy area of Fauborg-Marigny rather than the constantly rambunctious French Quarter. If you're looking for a party, than this might not be the place for you. But if you're searching for a more relaxed experience then this is the place to stay.

Staying at the Sweet Olive is like being embraced by the spirit of New Orleans with the hand painted wall murals and vintage decor. Stay in the honeymoon suite. Its great! The owners have certainly gone the extra mile to sit down with us and make sure we had the information we needed to tailor a visit that met our hopes to a "T". The housemaid Clara is so thoughtful and kind. And don't forget to give, the old quiet tiny dachshund Happy a kibble of cereal at the light but yummy breakfast. Staying at the Sweet Olive enhanced our enjoyment of our 50th wedding anniversary. Thanks to Dale, David and Clara. We'll be back.

We came upon New Orleans for a birthday experience, and how perfect to stay at the Sweet Olive. It has classic New Orleans charm, right down to Mardi Gras fun! Our room was quiet, spacious and relaxed, just what we needed after a long day in the French Quarter.

I really liked Auld Sweet Olive. Dale and David are avid lovers of New Orleans culture, and this is all on display at the inn. It's always so nice to stay at a place that appreciates and shares its local culture with guests. The rooms are quite interesting in terms of decor (in a very good way), and the innkeepers were quite good about explaining the area and answering our questions. My only issue is that the bathroom floor hadn't been thoroughly cleaned before we arrived. I didn't bother mentioning it because I didn't want anyone to feel badly and it was a minor problem that I was able to remedy myself pretty quickly. In conclusion, if you want to have a real NOLA experience away from the ridiculousness that is (west) Bourbon Street, this is the place for you!

SweetOlive reflects very much the spirit of New Orleans - colourful, artistic and soulful. We're pleased with the fact that the pictures on its website were accurate of the actual place - we've been travelling for 5 weeks prior to that and had stayed at various B&Bs and not everyone of them stood up to expectation. Thankfully SweetOlive did. Dale gave us a brief orientation of the place and neighbourhood when we arrived, which included a map of various places for food, grocery, music and interesting sights. Breakfast was good and we can get beer in the fridge for $1! Wifi connection was good even in the rooms (again not many places can testify to that) We've enjoyed our stay as it gave us the rest needed while exploring New Orleans.

Where to begin !? Auld Sweet Olive is a very comfortable, very laid-back yet professional establishment. I was going to take a week long vacation in Houston in July 2011, and due to the sudden death of a close cousin, I needed to change my location and dates to New Orleans (where I am from). I immediately thought about trying a different approach, looking at bed and breakfast style accommodations. In my good luck, I have a friend who knows Dale and David, the Sweet Olive owners. I was thoroughly delighted to see that they have a truly great deal when staying four nights: The 4th night is free! Obviously, this doesn't include major holidays. That is an amazing deal at any establishment, much less one as nice as this! I stayed in the Palmetto Guest Room. Very well-appointed, and with a lot of storage and a truly awesome bathroom with excellent hand made soaps! The staff was courteous, professional, and around just enough to see to any needs. No need for meddling people in your personal business, UNLESS you engage in conversation with them. Clara was amazingly nice. She is a true New Orleanian. I can't even tell you how amazing the incredibly generous spread was for breakfast. Jams, breads, fresh fruit, berries, cream cheese, muffins, bagels, you name it. Extremely generous and ever-evolving. I was very pleased. By the way, parking is extremely easy, as it is located across the street within a stones throw of the front door. Also, it is a secure lot off the street. Seriously, it can't get easier than that! By the way, WiFi is free! The house was very pretty and very well taken care of. I do not see the validity of some of the negative reviews that have been posted. Perhaps they were expecting the W Hotel or Intercontinental? Get real. This place is amazing. I will absolutely stay here whenever I am in town. No doubt about it. M

We stayed in Auld Sweet Olive last November 2011, 3 days in Plantation Room. The atmosphere is unique, everyday we found excellent homemade muffins for breakfast, the place is very near from French Quarter (10 minutes walk) and is located in a very quiet neighborhood. It was supposed we were in the more noisy room because we were just beside the kitchen, but it wasn't a problem at all (I think we were the first ones getting up everyday) and out time there was really nice. Thank you Dale and Dave. You have really a great place!!!! Next time in New Orleans, for sure we'll try to contact Sweet Olive. Valentina and Jose.

This B&B made our trip magical. The location is great for walking/biking around and exploring a non-touristy part of the city. The Healing Center/Food Co-op across the street is a great nearby resource. We stayed in the Courtyard Suite so there was a lot of space to move around in and feel at home. It was a great value for the price - especially since they were running a "buy 3 get a night free" promo. I spend a lot of time in 4 star hotels so my expectations of service, cleanliness and overall comfort are very high and this place had it all! Plus it felt a whole lot more like a real New Orleans experience staying here instead of a chain hotel property. Also, the murals all over the home are very cool. We would definitely stay there again.

I have recently returned from a stay at the Sweet Olive in New Orleans. My husband and I booked the entire B&B for the wedding and my guests. Dale and Dave were wonderful. They assisted with arrangements and orders when we needed help. They helped arrange special amenities for my Maid of Honor to surprise the groom and I, and they happily received boxes I mailed ahead of time. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful stay. Clara ensured we were well fed, our coffee addictions met and helped us kept track of wayward items. As a bride, I had no stresses over the venue, everything was handled professionally and with great attitude. Now that everything is done, if I could do it over, I would still choose the Sweet Olive.

Our recent trip to New Orleans felt like coming home, mostly because of our stay at the Sweet Olive. The minute we stepped through the old iron gate, we knew we had stumbled upon something special. The rooms are beautiful works of art and everywhere we looked there was someting unique to explore. Beside being lovely, the rooms were extremely comfortable and well kept. Also, the owners, Dale and David, were very welcoming and helpful and were quick to give suggestions for restaurants and other venues to visit. They never steered us wrong with any of their recommendations and we found some true gems that will now be added to our permanent list of "musts" when we come back into town. We were so comfortable at the Sweet Olive that we found ourselves leaving the doors open when we went to grab breakfast from the kitchen and padding around in our bare feet to grab a beer from the fridge (the honor system is genius!). We will definitely stay at the Sweet Olive whenever we return to New Orleans and would recommend it to anyone looking for a home away from home in the Big Easy. We can't wait to come back next year!

This is a wonderful option if you want to stay a little more in 'the real New Orleans' and out of the French Quarter. The house is lovely, the rooms spacious, has great character, the hosts helpful and there when you need them, but not invasive or over-solicitous, which I prefer in a B&B. Breakfast is self-service. About a 15-min lovely, interesting walk to the Quarter, cabs on call and readily available... It's a gentrifying neighborhood for those of you who would like to immerse yourself more in the real character of a place. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to all my friends!

this B&B is THE place to stay if you plan to go to New Orlean it's well located, in Faubourg Marigny, close to the French Quarter The first thing I said when I entered this big yellow house was... WOW!!! Even with the pictures on the site, you can't imagine... high ceilings, huge parlor, entry hall, all the decoration... and i fell in love with the kitchen!! even if it's big, it's comfortable and welcoming we booked the Cypress room, it's clean, it's nice, it's just what we needed! the breakfast is made of fresh fruits, coffee, juice, cereals, bagel and pastries; lot of stuff, so you'll find something you like the owners are sympathic, and so is Claire, the housekeeper!!!

Dan & Dave are very nice guys, I would always stay here again. Close enough to walk to Bourbon street, but even closer to famous frenchmen street, which is much nicer than the touristy and crowded Bourbon street. We arrived a night earlier than sceduled, but still got a room in the house! Thanks Dan&Dave for a great stay! Max

This was our first experience at a B&B and it was so positive that will definitely stay again. Normally, we stay at nice hotels but since we were working in the area the lady we were working for found us the Sweet Olive. Pretty apprehensive at first, but were just thrilled with the accommodations.

I was in New Orleans for only two nights this visit and Auld Sweet Olive was wonderful. Great people, lovely location and near all the places I wanted to be. Only drawback was trolley not running which limited access to the other side of town but that will begin again in August making Auld Sweet Olive my mainstay choice for great value and comfort.

The owners took such good care of my college age Norwegian exchange students. After a long safari in Africa, the students landed in New Orleans at Sweet Olive, they dropped in their cozy beds and enjoyed a homestyle breakfast. They thought they were in Heaven! THANKS TO ALL! We'll be back!

The Sweet Olive is about perfect. It has a great ambience, wonderful facilities, and an excellent location. It is close enough to Frenchmen Street and downtown for an easy walk. The decor is amazing. Our room could not be better.

We stayed in the Courtyard Suite for 8 nights on our honeymoon. It was very quiet and private, and so nice to have our own entrance. Both the owners and the housekeeper were very accommodating, and we absolutely loved Happy, their charming geriatric dachshund. We also really enjoyed having our own in-suite kitchen (which, incidentally, was very clean)! This is such a great neighborhood--walking distance to the Quarter and with excellent bus access (important for us since we were traveling without a car). Probably our favorite thing about this location--and one of our favorite things in all of NO--was Mimi's in the Marigny, just a few blocks away. This tapas bar was suggested to us by owner Dave, and his suggestion was spot-on; while the downstairs is a bit rowdy, Mimi's upstairs is eclectic and charming, with an outstanding menu (try the Trust Me) and great, affordable cocktails. We would definitely stay here again!

Auld's Sweet Olive Bed & Breakfast is THE place to stay when in New Orleans. Situated in The Marigny, just down river of the French Quarter, Sweet Olive's proprietors are friendly and outgoing, and they make sure their guests enjoy their stay. The staff is outstanding, especially the Housekeeper. All of the morning goodies are homemade, and she's a wonderful baker. Don't worry if you lose a few crumbs from that delicious banana bread this morning, because Happy, the Sweet Olive mascot, will be by as fast as his little legs will carry him to snap up the crumbs! I stayed in the Sweet Olive room, and found it spacious and well appointed, with a King Size bed, private bath, and side porch overlooking a small courtyard. Bottom line: If you're going to New Orleans, why spend more on a hotel room when you can get an affordable room with great people at a great place?

We got an awesome deal and decided to stay here for four nights this past June, 2011. I was impressed at how clean the rooms were, how personable Dave and Dale were, and how much I felt like a guest in a home, rather than a hotel. Every morning they laid out a hearty breakfast with different options. The coffee is to die for. They always had orange juice. I opted for granola and blueberries. There wasn't much variety, but I didn't mind because what they did have was so good. They laid out a new newspaper every day. I loved the soaps (especially made for sweet olive!) and shampoo/conditioner. The beds were really comfortable and the location was very close to the French Quarter. Just down the road are these great jazz joints, and the best sandwiches in the world are a block away at Gene's (open 24 hours). During the summer, be prepared for really hot weather. Having our own individual air conditioners in the rooms was great. Wish there was a pool, but other than that, no complaints. Thanks Sweet Olive for the wonderful time! I love your great city!

We had a most wonderful time staying at Auld Sweet Olive. It was a very quaint and relaxing environment. Dave and Dale were very helpful in recommending restaurants, places to see, and giving directions. We had a great time just relaxing and chatting with Dave, Dale, and the other guests.

I absolutely loved staying at the Auld Sweet Olive...the entire place has a delightfully artistic feel, Dave and Dale were awesome with suggestions of routes to take to convenient center, a detailed description of their favorite coffe shops in the district (after my own heart! lol), and some fabulous eating suggestions. Throw in a couple of stories and time in the kitchen made a good stay, wonderful. Clara was incredibly helpful. And Happy (the dog) was very friendly. The rooms and kitchen were very clean. Breakfasts were more bountiful than I'd anticipated. All in all, it was a huge part of the very special trip to New Orleans and I hope to see New Orleans and Auld Sweet Olive again very soon...

The Auld Sweet Olive B&B is a wonderful place to stay while visiting New Orleans. It is within walking distance to the French Quarter yet far enough away for peace and quiet. The hosts David and Dale are both very helpful and make sure you have a pleasant stay.

We stayed at Auld Sweet Olive for a week in late April. We rated the five categories above to be 'outstanding'. I hate to do this because, first of all, I strongly discount reviews of anything, meals, hotels, other travel, that suggest perfection. Secondly, nothing is perfect, even our stay at Auld Sweet Olive. I just can't seem to remember anything that wasn't just right. Dave and Dale, who live on the property, seem to have found that happy medium: a BnB that has a friendly, home-like feel but doesn't make you feel like you are intruding in someone's home. Added extras are Claire, the housekeeper. She prepares the morning meal among other things. She is friendly, personable but no-nonsense. We greatly enjoyed talking to her each day. Also, Happy, a 15 year old Daschund, who has the responsibility of keeping the floors clean. The BnB itself is a few blocks away from the Bywater's own French Quarter and about a dozen blocks away from the French Quarter. We are walkers so this was not a great problem but . . . in the afternoon when we wanted to go back to our room and just relax and then return to the Quarter, it was a bit of a walk. We felt safe in the neighborhood although we were warned many times, by David also, to avoid going into certain areas or past certain blocks. We both walked and biked the Bywater neighborhood and greatly enjoyed the experience. The house itself is beautiful. We counted the time spent in our room, the kitchen and living room as part of the experience of visiting New Orleans. The cost of a room in this BnB is a true value. We are going back to New Orleans and we will be staying here if they have space for us.

Facility (room and common areas) is beautiful and well kept. I would have appreciated a 'tour' of how to manage the air conditioning and bath (I couldn't figure out how to drain the tub or set the shower sprays). While I was told there was a bus to the downtown convention centre, I did not find the bus and the street car was not convenient, so I needed to use the cab more than expected.

This past weekend my fiancée and I stay at the Sweet Olive and what can I say, it was an amazing experience. We got there and the innkeeper Dave greeted us and showed us to our room. Everything was exceptionally clean, the breakfast delicious. Dave took his time to show us a map and ways to get around as well as rough cab estimates. The inn had a great ambiance and felt very relaxing overall. The price was just right and I will recommend anyone planning to visit NOLA to stay there. We would definitely return there.

Had a great stay at the Auld Sweet Olive B&B, room was nicely decorated with Palm trees, which I just love, since in Netherlands we do not have those. Made me feel quite at home. Clara, the housekeeper is a sweetheart and so is Happy the dog. Both B&B keepers helped out to point out restaurants, good ways to walk to the city (which happened to be very close) and just in general be very informative and helpful. When I have asked them about the New Orleans cooking school, information was not at hand. However it was googled just as easy and speedy for me. After my return from the Jazz fest a brochure had been slided under my door. Did actually go there and had a wonderful morning with yummie NO food, and recepices to take home. During my stay the neighbourhood grew on me, and I do miss the admosphere now being at home. The other guests also pointed me in directions on what to do, see and eat. I really had an excellent 1st NO Jazz fest visit and not in the least because I was able to stay at this lovely B&B. For sure I will be back. Many thanks!

The house is absolutely beautiful. It's located in a quiet neighborhood that gave us much needed tranquility after spending the day in the busy French Quarter. It was within walking distance to almost everything we wanted to see and do. They offer a decent variety of breakfast items, coffee and beverages. The hosts were great and very helpful.
3,8 sur avril 14, 2011
The house was built in the 1840's and has had extensive work. An artist formerly owned it and has created hand painted murals in most all the rooms. Breakfast is upscale continental with a wide variety to choose from. There is an honor bar in the fridge with very reasonable prices - which is very nice amenity. Location is handy to the Quarter and Frenchman Street. It isn't the cleanest B&B I've been in, but it is only little minor things and not enough to be troubling. I really enjoyed our stay and would book here again.

Being a B&B owner it was quite a delight to stay with my fanily at the Auld Sweet Olive. The ambiance was charming. It was great to be close to the French Quarter but yet in a neighborhood removed. I spent a lot of time out and about and Sweet Olive was always a tranquil refuge in my five days there. Plenty of places to relax inside and out, a surprisingly spacious feel (I stayed in the Courtyard Suite), and an easygoing charm.

The location is ideal--in a quiet, pretty area of Marigny, but only a handful of blocks from Frenchmen Street and the Quarter; Dale, David, and Clara are friendly, accommodating, and efficient; the house is beautiful and wonderfully kept; the continental breakfast every morning offers good coffee, oj, bananas, scones, bagels, muffins, and more; and you can even buy glasses of wine or beer ($1 each) in house, in case you want to just have a quiet drink in the courtyard; the beds are comfortable, and the rooms well appointed--they even have their own Sweet Olive soaps. Highly recommended!
4,8 sur mars 20, 2011
We stayed in the suite and had a great stay. The breakfast was really nice, lots of options, and you can put $1 in the cookie jar for sodas and beer anytime. We were a little hesitant about the neighborhood at first. Within a couple of blocks, there are some pretty transitional areas, and we were advised not to walk around too much at night. But the upside is, there are some hidden coffee shops, pizza places, record store, etc. if you are willing to explore the neighborhood a bit more (in the daylight). Overall, we thought it was a great bargain.

Recently stayed here for two nights and truly enjoyed the visit. The only thing that was missing was there was no television in the room. The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable which is hard to find in New Oleans unless you're staying in a five star hotel. I have stayed in MANY places/hotels in New Orleans in the quarter and never slept on a bed as comfortable as the one we slept on in this facility. Great place to stay!!!

The Sweet Olive was beautiful. Communication with the innkeepers before hand was prompt and helpful. Though we had almost no personal contact with them during our stay. I would have liked to talk with them, and heard them giving new guests more local information than we got. The location was great because we could easily walk to the French Quarter and streetcar stops, but it was a quiet neighborhood.

Great neighborhood to walk around and yet still close to the French Quarter. House and amenities all great but owners quite absent/ one of them seemed inconvenienced by guests. You really cannot beat the value that Sweet Olive offers. We got a private suite with a jacuzzi, a kitchen, and private entrance for less than $100/night. Breakfast pastries and bread were great. Ms. Clara was there to greet us every morning. She even made friends with our 3 year-old. The owners were hospitable and helpful. We had a very pleasant stay. The only negative I can think about (and this is our mistake and not the owners') is that we were a little farther from the French Quarter than we had planned to be. The neighborhood a few blocks down was rather dicey and was not safe to walk around at night. Be prepared to take a cab back t the inn or take your car and park somewhere in the French Quarter if you intend to stay out late. The bright side is that we were far away enough from the noise that going to sleep at night was not a problem. It is also close to neat little places like Schiro's/Julie's Little India Kitchen (great pivots and friendly people), Who Dat Coffee (good coffee without the Starbucks prices) and all the neat little jazz clubs at Frenchmen. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and we enjoyed NOLA a lot.

I really enjoyed my stay at Auld Sweet Olive. The owners were very nice, gave tons of helpful advice, and were just fun to talk to. The room was large and comfortable. The common rooms were also very nice. The breakfasts were standard fare - bagels, muffins, cake, cereal, instant oatmeal, yogurt. It wasn't something that I was especially interested in waking up for because it wasn't spectacular but it was fine. The coffee was very good. I wish they had organic dairy products. The room was nice and the bathroom was kept pretty clean during my stay. I really liked their soap and wished I could take some home. Their towels were really thick and absorbent - very nice touch. The neighborhood was fantastic. I took the bus one day but i walked all the other days I stayed there. The houses are so interesting to look at and there are lots of coffee shops and bars in the neighborhood as well. I felt perfectly safe and wished I had a bike to ride around the neighborhoods with. Next time I will get one for my visit. Overall I would highly recommend staying here if you are visiting New Orleans!

After a less pleasant stay in a local hotel, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Auld Sweet Olive. Particularly pleasant, were the hosts and the housekeeper. The B and B was a great place for my son, daughter, husband and I to enjoy Thanksgiving. I especially enjoyed the comforts of the bed and the bath towels! The location is good for walking to the French Quarter and the music along Frenchman's Street. We left feeling we had experienced a slice of New Orleans hospitality at a very affordable price.

We got the room we expected (Magnolia). It was comfortable and bigger than most B & Bs in the city. The bed was very comfortable. The bath was generously sized. The maid service was unobtrusive but thorough. She's like a member of the family there -- friendly. For the price, this is our best stay in the ciity yet. I'm sure we'll stay there again. There was some dust on top of things that are not normally touched by guests but over all, the room was as clean as most moderate price motels. The morning snacks (cake/muffins/fruit bread) and City Roast coffee were great. It's important to realize that the B & Bs in the Quarter and the Marigny do not serve a hot breakfast. The restaurants that specialize in that endeavor would be unhappy w/ the competition. And we would miss out on some wonderful dining experiences if the B & Bs tempted us w/ full breakfasts while in our jammies ; )

I was very well received on my 2 nights stay here. Having a tasteful breakfast in the kitchen while having an interesting and friendly chat with the owners was an excellent start of my day. My most stay at Auld's Sweet Olive bed and Breakfast was the most recent of a long chain of enjoyable stays. I don't think it's possible to say too many good things about the Sweet Olive and ,judging by the comments the other guests have left in the guest book, I am not alone in that opinion. Dale and Dave, the owners, have gone out of their way to make the B&B welcoming and homelike. The rooms are unique in their decor and appointments and attention to small details like hand made soaps in the bathrooms and bottled water on the nightstands let each guest know that she or he is a welcome addition to the Sweet Olive family. Breakfast in the kitchen of the B&B is a part of the cachet of the Sweet Olive. In additon to healthful choices like fresh fruit and yogurt and juice the guests are tempted with home made and locally produced baked goods. This weekend we enjoyed chocolate scones and home baked biscuits. Ms. Clara, the housekeeper, is an institution at the Sweet Olive and guests who stay there enjoy her presence as a part of the New Orleans experience. To anyone who anticipates a future trip to New Orleans i extend this advice: make a stay at the Sweet Olive a part of your trip and you'll not regret it.

The Sweet Olive is the perfect spot from which to venture out to explore the exciting city of New Orleans. This B&B is biker-friendly, allowing for off-street, secured parking. It boasts the most gracious hosts (Dale and Dave) who know the ins and outs of their city. They are happy to tell you about its rich history and help you find where to go, if you are not sure. What fun! This B&B is definitely a MUST-STAY on your next trip to New Orleans!!

Several friends and I rented the whole b&b for a long weekend last fall. We had such a great time we're all still talking about it six months later! Everyone there was very friendly and had excellent recommendations for restaurants and places to go while we were in New Orleans. The location is perfect too-twenty minute walk to the French Quarter but far enough away, in the Faubourg-Marigny, we could enjoy a glimpse of life through the eyes of the locals too. Overall, I would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who enjoys genuine hospitality in a low-key environment.
