We were able to stay for just the one night, but it was clean and comfortable - a very good place for a getaway.

Overall, we loved our stay at the Solon Langworthy house. We stayed in the downstairs room. Awesome tub. Other reviews are right about the small toilet area, but it was fine for my partner and I. We ended up checking in a little late -- the owners were accommodating. The only thing that could improve was the kitchen situation. Breakfast was fine, but there were no instructions on what to do with the dirty dishes. There was a scrub brush in the sink, but no soap. I would have appreciated a sign saying whether to leave the dishes on the table, put them in the sink, or put them in the dishwasher.

Great two days. Most comfortable and relaxing stay we have had in a long time. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a good time.

I stayed in the master suite, which is a stunning space that looks way better in real life than in photos. Everything was peaceful and lovely, and the breakfast was great. I also never met the owners, but they were very responsive too my request for an earlier breakfast. I would definitely stay again. The only minor thing was that the jacuzzi style bath took FOREVER to fill up and the water from the tap was not very hot. So, just be prepared for that.

We were looking for a quiet, private way to celebrate our anniversary, and that's exactly what this B&B provided. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! Breakfast was set out for us and there were plenty of great options - waffle mix to make Belgian waffles, gourmet muffins kept on a warmer, fresh coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, and bowls of fresh fruit. And we had the kitchen to ourselves!

We've lost count of how many times we've stayed! A private retreat with amazing soaking tubs. Breakfast is self-serve but I appreciate the behind-the-scenes operations and not being forced to interact with other guests.

We enjoyed our stay at the Solon Langworthy B and B. The outside of the house does not give a good first impression but the rooms were beautiful and quiet. The description of this being very private and non intrusive is exactly correct. We were not met by the owners but instructions were very clear regarding the rooms and the amenities. I wouldn't have seen the owners at all had I not gone downstairs really early for a cup of tea while they were setting out breakfast items. If you DON'T want to chit chat with the innkeeper, this is the place for you! The room was very comfortable with all the features that were listed on the website. I would definitely stay here again

This was our first B&B stay and we loved the privacy. The owner made himself scarce and we weren't bothered by other residents. The Delux Suite and the enormous jetted tub was well worth the price. We also loved how close the B&B was to other Dubuque attractions. We were able to walk everywhere! We had a great stay and will definitely come again!

The Solon Langworthy House is unique as far as B&Bs go. Staying here gives you the feeling of staying in your own home away from home. They make it their business to stay out of your business and they do an excellent job doing this while providing a very clean, well designed, comfortable environment. It is located in a beautiful neighborhood in Dubuque. There were wine glasses and an opener ready for us when we arrived. For breakfast there were two muffins warmed, fresh fruit, and waffle batter individually portioned into containers. There is a high quality waffle maker in the kitchen and I made up a few waffles for my wife and I. They were delicious. They also had tea, coffee, and orange juice available. I loved my stay here. I am sad to see some reviews giving low scores for the "lack of a personal touch" but their business model is clearly stated on their webpage for all to see. They delivered exactly what they said they would.

Me and my husband loved the place, it's quite and privet, it's a great place to get away from the city. Breakfast was delicious! We are already talking about coming back:)

We stayed in the Deluxe room - BEAUTIFUL room but a little close to the entrance. Good amenities overall, owners were easy to contact, and like the description says they really value privacy. The breakfast felt more like a hotel experience with a help yourself continental breakfast in the kitchen. Great value for a B&B and we would certainly do it again.

I loved that while we were still in the city, it was a quiet neighborhood set in the historic district of Dubuque. Breakfast was fantastic with so much variety. The Deluxe Suite was worth every cent!

Very appreciative of the privacy and quiet of the SLH. Understated but pseudo-artsy / antique meets contemporary. A wonderful breakfast which included fresh fruit / raspberries. One of my favorite B&B's. A big shout-out to the Innkeepers! Jo & Lori

Enjoyed our stay. It was very quiet- we never saw another soul which was a little unsettling to us but we enjoyed everything. It was nice to have movies to watch and the breakfast was wonderful.

Very responsive hosts. Great location to explore Dubuque and the Mississippi River. If you like privacy, you've got it here. Would stay here again.

First time staying in a B&B. Was a great expectation and was great to have a room and not be in a hotel. This one was great because of the location to the casino, downtown and all the resturants. Will be staying at more B&B and if we stay in Dubuque again we will stay here if possible.

We stayed in the Deluxe Sweet and LOVED it! Very private, which is just how my husband and I like it. We didn't see owners of the location, breakfast was out and ready for us by 9am. This was a small place, quaint, and the tub in that room was one I wish I could have taken with us. It was a great experience, so relaxing, we loved it.

My wife and I had a lovely time in the Delux Suite. It was very private. We were well taken care of but never saw another person in the house during our stay. The breakfast was very good and varied. The house is just a short distance from the Dubuque river front. Over all a very good stay. We would recommend it!

My husband and I spent a night in the deluxe suite room. The house is in a neat, old historic part of Dubuque. I really liked the room. The toilet area was a little tight, but I thought it was kind of cute actually. You probably won't see the inn keepers too much, if at all, but that's what they are going for, it seems. My husband and I didn't mind, as we just wanted to get away from home for a night and enjoy each other's company. In the morning, they had warm muffins out, fresh fruit plates, and waffle mixes ready to make at our leisure. There was juice, milk, coffee, tea, and cereal available too. All in all, our stay was enjoyable.

My wife and I spent a lovely night at the Solon Langworthy. It looks a little ordinary driving up but when you get inside it is a lovely old house. We had the place to ourselves as it turned out the owners were out of town for the night. The downstairs room was very well set out with plenty of room. One of the most outstanding features was the whirlpool bathtub. It was "over the top" nice. We enjoyed it in the evening and my wife went back in the next morning. The town was filled with old buildings and we went down to the Mississippi River Museum. I will stay there again when I get a chance.

Historical building, great bath/jacuzzi, nice breakfast room, could use some finishing touches, good value for the money, nice part of town.

Reservations were easy to make and rate was affordable. Room was clean and adequate. Needs some work on outside grounds and detail/finish work within the room, hall, breakfast area. Seems it's still a "work in progress". Very nice whirlpool/bath area in the ground floor sweet. Breakfast wasn't anything special - muffins, fruit, and make your own waffles. It is private, neighborhood is quiet, and you are close to the Dubuque Riverfront District.

We had 3 rooms for the guest suite, a large bath, sitting room with a TV, and a bedroom. The whirlpool bath was wonderful. It was very quiet and in an historic neighborhood. We had a nice weekend getaway and were able to recharge our batteries for the busy week ahead.

We were very pleased upon entering the room! Although everything seemed to be perfectly placed just for us, we felt very encouraged to make ourselves at home. It was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and we really enjoyed the privacy it offered. Our only encounter with others was during breakfast when the Wainwright's brought their breakfast dishes to the sink and simply said "hello". We absolutely loved the whirlpool and the DVD library! I highly recommend this to everyone, as we are planning to stay again! :)

This is a very nice B&B, very well restored. I booked the smaller room and was given a free upgrade when I arrived. It is a quiet location and about 5 minutes from the center of town.

My husband and I felt welcomed as soon as we arrived. The room was lovely and very comfortable. We loved the very large and romantic steam shower, too! Everything was great even the free popcorn, sodas while we watched DVDs from the collection in the house. The breakfast was delicious, fresh and plentiful.

We had an enjoyable stay and would recommend this to others. It was a good place to spend our 23rd anniversary, especially the jacuzzi. We were greeted by soft music and low lights, and a bottle of nice wine came with the room. We stayed both nights. Breakfast was self serve, but the prepared rolls and cakes and waffles were very good and the setting was nice. The only down side to the trip was that we did not get to meet our hosts. Also, the toilet was in a cubbyhole under the stairs and it took a bit of contortionism for a big man like me to use it. But it was still a very relaxing stay and we would do it again.

The house is lovely, and the room was perfect. Upon entering our room, we were greeted by classical music, a bottle of wine, and warm lighting. The room and adjoining bathroom are quaint in the loveliest of ways, and the jacuzzi, adorned with tea lights, was amazing.

The room is a bit on the modern side, but very nice. There was a bottle of wine in the room and candles by the whirlpool tub. The only negative I can say about the room is that the toilet is in a very small room and you have to sit a bit crooked. It is not a traditional bed and breakfast in the sense of having a formal living room, dining room, parlor - at least for guest use. Breakfast was good - do-it-yourself waffles with fresh fruit, warm muffins, OJ, etc... The innkeepers must have been very busy that weekend because we did not see them on either day, but they were reachable by phone. Overall, I would recommend staying at the Solon Langworthy House as long as someone is OK with it not being a "traditional" B&B.

I spent 2 nights in Dubuque while I was attending a conference at an expensive hotel on the river. I was really pleased to find the Longworthy House as an alternative to the mass-marketed water-park hotel. I only saw one of the owners once during my stay. If you like your privacy, this B&B is perfect for you. I snuggled in at night with a DVD movie, got up in the a.m., ate a light breakfast and was on my way to the conference. If you are looking for more interaction/conversation from your hosts, this might not be the place for you--or at least I didn't experience that. The room was very clean. There is still a bit of renovation going on at the inn, but it didn't bother me. I was surprised though that my bed was not made up during the day while I was gone. Perhaps that is just the norm with this B&B. The Langworthy House is located in a very historic district of Dubuque. I really enjoyed the area.

We stayed at the Solon Langworthy House in 9/07. Keisha and Jeremy attended to all of our questions and accommodated our late arrival that night. The b&b was still under some constrution at the time, but upon hearing what the final result was going to be, it made us want to go back just to see how it improved and changed. We had a great experience there and the Wainwrights were gracious hosts. Our only problem was finding the place in the dark and within the residential neighborhood. The picture shows the front of the house, which now is actually the back of the house, so I couldn't spot the house from the street. What an adventure that was! We really hope to return some day soon and explore Dubuque, which we didn't have the time to do when we were there last.

The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious! Small touches added to the relaxation--music playing when I arrived, tea available in the kitchen, lotions, body washes, and SILENCE in the neighborhood.

Our stay at the Solon Langworthy house was excellent! The room was wonderful and artistic, the atmosphere very quiet and private. It was great entering the room to nice soothing music. We enjoyed a special night together, and woke up to a great breakfast. We highly recommend this room to all of our friends.
