A wonderful stay in a grand 19th century home

4,6 sur novembre 09, 2017

The Ruddick-Nugent House is a true find, a chance to live for a day or two in a welcoming, grandly scaled, beautifully appointed--but never stuffy--Victorian-era house. A friend and I were in Columbus to look at the city's fabled Modernist architecture, and the Ruddick-Nugent House was an ideal base of operation. Owners Dennis Orwin and his wife, Joyce, had local maps and lists of restaurants handy, and, if you're interested, Dennis is happy to talk about the sweat equity he invested to bring the house to its current high level of comfort and tasteful design. The bedrooms are huge, as is the breakfast included in the very reasonable room rate. Don't be put off by the slightly battered blocks you pass on 16th Street on the way to the inn. The inn's immediate neighborhood and block-long gardens are charming. I'll happily stay at Ruddick-Nugent House on future trips to Columbus.

Lovely place to stay

5 sur octobre 14, 2016

My husband and stayed here last year after Thanksgiving. The house is a beautiful historic home and our room had a little sitting room and a bathroom with a claw foot bathtub. The hosts were wonderful and sat down and ate breakfast with us- they are an older couple with a wealth of experiences and interesting stories to tell. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Sadly when we were there they had the house up for sale so I hope that someone with as much love and passion for history and hospitality buys the home and will keep it as lovely as it is.

Wonderful Stay

4,8 sur janvier 15, 2016

The Ruddick-Nugent House was a wonderful get-a-way from home. We traveled a couple of hours just to have a weekend away, without getting too far from home. Dennis and Joyce were wonderful people that were great company when we wanted company. When we wanted a chance just to spend time together we were able to get peace and quiet, as if we were the only ones there, in a full house. The house had a great story behind it and was very comfortable. We appreciated the Orwins making our first night away from our daughter an enjoyable and comfortable one.

Excellent weekend getawaty

4,8 sur novembre 09, 2015

My wife and I spent the weekend in Columbus as a weekend vacation and we were fortunate enough to stay at the Riddick-Nugent B&B...Dennis and Joyce are amazing hosts who truly know what the service industry is all about. A beautiful house, with amazing accommodations, and the breakfast every morning was outstanding. Would strongly recommend anyone looking for a B&B this is where we would recommend.

Wonderful Fall Get-away!

5 sur octobre 22, 2015

My husband and I had a wonderful fall get-away at the Ruddick-Nugent House last weekend! We loved the decor of William's room and the rest of the home - especially the living room with the piano, books, photos, and chess sets. The breakfast was delicious and filling - a great combo! Dennis was a welcoming host, and we could not have been more pleased with our stay!

Unique and Charming Experience

5 sur mars 23, 2015

We were very comfortable and well fed for our overnight at the Ruddick-Nugent House. Its role in Columbus's history is unique and Dennis and Joyce Orwin are doing a wonderful service in preserving it and introducing visitors to it. The furnishings and the grounds are a delight, and our stay couldn't have been more relaxing. Thanks to the Orwins, we felt 100% at home. - The Ryans

Talking with guests about our house's history or about the architecture in Columbus, or just about life is the essence of successful innkeeping.

Our stay was too short!

My husband and I had such an enjoyable stay. The accommodations were charming, and we were very comfortable. We had delicious breakfasts with interesting conversation, and our hosts were knowledgeable and helpful with directions and suggestions for tours and restaurants. I highly recommend the Ruddick-Nugent House.

We always appreciate guests who in themselves interesting and open and good-natured. That's why innkeeping is still exciting and so much more than a job.

Great Relaxing Weekend

5 sur octobre 17, 2014

My husband and I's 3 night stay was very enjoyable. The house is beautiful and our room was very large and comfy - including a claw foot bath tub and oils for soaking! We couldn't have asked for more, helped ourselves to the DVD and magazine collection and the WiFi worked great. Breakfast had a wide variety of options each morning and everything was very good. FYI - breakfast is very formal sit down buffet with the inn keepers and other guests each morning with candlelight and china. Good time for meeting new people! Enjoyed tours of the Miller House, ice cream sodas at Zaharakos, and walked the 0.7 miles for pizza and beer at Zwanzig Z Brewery - all in Columbus.

Reviews like this make our day. We are pleased that we've made our guest's stay a pleasant one, but we want it to be pleasant in the larger context of the community as well. Thanks to the reviewer for noting that Columbus has a great deal to offer.
