Lovely place and people!

5 sur octobre 26, 2017

Just a lovely two days. Everything you need is provided, and breakfast is great.

Hauntingly Good Time!

5 sur septembre 11, 2017

My wife and I just celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary at Captain Grant's, 1754 B&B. From the warm welcome and tour of the inn we received upon arrival from innkeeper, Ted, to the delicious breakfasts prepared by Carole and the staff, the entire weekend was outstanding. Ted and Carol surprised us with a champagne toast for our anniversary that all the guests enjoyed at breakfast. Really nice touch that will be forever remembered! Ted even gave me a tour of his extensive woodworking shop (I'm really, really envious.). We stayed in the Adelaide Room, which was tastefully appointed with period antiques, an en suite bathroom, a/c and fireplace. We knew nothing of the supposed haunting of the inn and, in particular, the Adelaide Room but did have some eerie experiences while there. My wife did a quick turnaround in the hallway when she heard footsteps following her (nobody there) and, on at least three occasions we both heard someone walking across the floor in the room above us only to find out afterwards that above our room is an uninhabited attic! The B&B is conveniently located between Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun resort casinos and within 20 minutes of area wineries and Mystic, CT. I highly recommend this B&B for a couples retreat, wedding venue, or any special occasion. We look forward to returning again and again. Thank you Ted and Carol!

Surpirse Birthday

3,6 sur février 20, 2017

My Husband and I stayed at Captain Grants for (2) days - nights for his birthday can't say enough about Carol, Ted and their staff they put together the best breakfast. All of the guests were in good conversations around the table and Carol and Ted joined in. We listened to Carol tell us of the spirts who are in the houses we also did a sitting with her it was great. Let me tell you these houses are old 1700 hundreds and can use a fix or two but you get past that you can't replace the hospitality of Carol, Ted and there staff. Some of the quests who stayed this past weekend and also stayed a time before and they did get a visit from a spirt.. Also not sure of the two spirts in the house we were staying in were trying to keep me, my heal on my shoe got caught in an open plank in the kitchen floor and I could not get out I was so stuck and when I did get free I reached for the door and the door knobs broke and fell to the floor it was so funny I laughed so hard my husband thought I lost it. SO STRANGE so I asked Carol if the spirits in the house were nice or not she said those two were not so nice. In all we did enjoy it all and enjoyed the other guests we were like one big happy family .Just wanted to share this, had a great time in the area every thing you want to do is close by. We will be returning soon God Willing Enjoy """. Long Island

Ted and Carol are wonderful hosts. Great B&B on beautiful grounds.

One of the best I have stayed in!

5 sur septembre 12, 2016

This place was awesome! The furnishings made you feel you were in a different era! The grounds itself, with the cemeteries right between was very reminiscent of the colonial days! The room we stayed in was so cozy, it was named Adalaide, which by the way is deemed to be the room where a spirit may visit while you are there! We did not see her. but we felt her! Almost everytime we left the room, we came back to a fragrance, not of this time period! We also heard sounds in the room throughout the night! Never felt scared, but felt that she was watching over us, nothing more! Also felt, that since this was a Garrison in the period time, we could feel the presence of those men within the living room! There is also a nice game room with a pool table to enjoy! The night we stayed there, we had no other guests there, so we pretty much got to enjoy the whole place! The breakfast was A+, the Owners and staff was terrific! Do not hesitate to visit and stay here, I only stayed 1 night, but wish I could have stayed longer! Also, walking upstairs to room, the walls were hand painted of a scene which depicted the town of Preston, as it was after it was founded, with beautiful homes, barns and fields, along with beautiful skies!!! Absolutely gorgeous!

Great Hosts and Ghosts

5 sur septembre 04, 2016

We are enjoying our third visit to Captain Grant's, and hope to return many times in the years to come. This historic 18th century inn is convenienly placed halfway between two major casinos: Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. The property is on a lovely plot of land. The hosts, Ted and Carol, are gracious and charming. Each room is unique and tastefully decorated. We have stayed in the Collette room twice and in the Amy room once. We found both to be very comfortable and would gladly experience some of the other rooms in the future. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and enjoyed outside when the weather allows. The coffee is delicious and bottomless, and every breakfast includes fresh fruit, savory meats such as ham or bacon, annegg dish, and/or toast, French toast, waffles, or pancakes. The owners make their own jams, jellies, and compotes, which are also available for sale. We are especially fond of the rhubarb compote and the Concord grape jam. The inn has various charming common spaces, including a game room and benches outside on the beautiful lawn. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and water are available on a self-serve basis, and there is always cake or cookies available for snacking. The inn has a long-standing reputation for being haunted by various benign ghosts. We have not experience this directly...yet. But you never know. Meanwhile, the complImentary sherry provided in each of the guestrooms is a most congenial spirit.

Historical B&B

Gracious hosts, awesome breakfasts. Loved the way the history of the Inn was presented with a local artist's mural depicting life as it was in the 1800's and scrapbooks showing newspaper clippings with information about the Inn and its current owners passionate effort to transform it back to its roots.

Nice place, Good People

A very pretty location. The host was extremely nice and accommodating. Breakfast was delish! Definitely close enough to casino, mystic, winery, and brewery, location wise.

We stayed in the Elizabeth Room which was very nice with its own bathroom. Room was very clean and the hosts Carol and Ted were very friendly and informative about the house's history and the local area. The breakfast on Sunday morning was excellent and they even made special gluten free pancakes for my wife.
