This was a wonderful place to stay-great location a few blocks from the harbour, downtown, restaurants, entertainment & shopping. Comfy beds, spacious rooms, homemade food at breakfast, really clean, exceptional staff. I would stay here again if visiting Charlottetown.
This past visit I stayed in my favorite suite, the Premier Suite. I arrived to freshly made still steaming chocolate chip muffins for my room....yummm!! I spent a decadent Sunday morning.... an hour in my huge Jacuzzi bathtub, then curled up in my perfectly soft yet firm antique king size bed, air drying infront of the fire place with a goblet of fresh squeezed orange juice. Usually I look forward to breakfast downstairs where breakfast is a five star event, but this day I promised myself I was going to luxuriate in my room till noon. I asked for just cereal in my room and "please don't go to any bother". "Would I like some homemade granola, fruit, and juice?" "Yes". The granola was chunky and fabulous, juice fresh and succulent, and a beautifully arranged fruit tray with lime to squeeze on the strawberries and other fruit !! Who knew how good that tastes ! Carol does! Carol tells me she is not a trained Chef but you would never know, every item I have eaten there is exceptional, and beautifully presented. Breakfast downstairs at the Inn is a grand event. I am a serious introvert but I look forward to breakfast at the large table with other guests, chatting about our travels, sitting at a table lit by candles and laid with fine china, silver ware, those delightful tiny antique salt and pepper shakers, and incredible service. This is like stepping back in time, and dining in first class on the Titanic. For those who don't want to join in though there are many small private tables as well. Owners Jay and Carol are consistently kind, welcoming, accommodating, and a wealth of knowledge about the Inn and all the antiques and curios of course; but also about the Island, places of interest, and local events. The restaurant and menu item that Carol suggested was as predicted...out of this world.
On a 16 day trip covering 1600 miles we stayed in several b & b's and this was the best!!!!! The home is beautiful with wonderful antiques. Owners were very helpful in every way and candlelight breakfast was outstanding. Thanks for a wonderful time. Prue and Barry
My mother and I stayed with Herb and Roger in June and we simply did not want to leave. The home itself is stunning. There are balconies and patios to enjoy the purple, pink and golden sunsets and they just added a wrap-around porch as we were leaving. There is a beautiful Victorian sitting room loaded with maps, guide books and menus from places all over the island. There is a comfy living room with a large screen tv and many books. Herb and Roger have set up a "guest" dining room, where there is tea for you all night long and where my mother and I ended each of our days playing cards at the table and chatting about our adventures with Herb. We stayed in the Maben suite, which had just been remodeled and it was amazing. A king bed in its own room, two twins in the common room where the tv is and an ensuite bath that was extremely modernized. Now, for the food. Roger is UNBELIEVABLE. I took pictures of every single meal I had there because my friends are all foodies and they couldn't believe the food was real. Many of the ingredients are purchased daily/weekly by Herb at the island farmers markets or picked from their backyard garden. There is also a convenience store on the corner, is across the street from the most gorgeous church and a block away from a museum. Herb and Roger also have bikes on the premises which are wonderful for a little ride around the town, or down the road to get some stellar ice cream. Herb and Roger know EXACTLY how to run a successful business...and that's to make it feel as far away from a business as you can get. When you're there, you're home.
This was the first time in many years that I had stayed at a Bed and Breakfast. What a lovely surprise. The owner was very gracious and even carried our luggage to the room. The room and bathroom were spotless and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and I could tell that a lot of work and thought had gone in to the preparation of each meal--2 breakfasts.
This was my first time on the Island as well as my first experience in a B & B. I don't like to use the word service because the hospitality was very personable. It was like staying with family or friends only....friendlier :-) The breakfasts were outstanding. The only problem I had with my stay was the weather but if I ever have to come back to the Island for any reason, this will be my first choice for accommodations. - Jodi
