My daughter and I had a most delightful stay at the Gardner Farm Inn. The proprietor, John, greeted us (along with his gorgeous dogs), and immediately made us feel at home. The house is incredible- beautifully renovated and impeccably decorated with awesome collections, curiosities, artwork, photos and more. The rooms are super cozy- the beds are fabulously comfortable!!! The attention to detail goes beyond any other b&b we have experienced. Breakfast was perfect- delicious (made with locally sourced eggs) and great conversations. John was a great host- helped us learn more about the area and gave us ideas for dinner. I hope my daughter is able to attend school in Troy so that we can be frequent visitors and continue our relationship with John, his dogs and the Gardner Farm Inn. Thanks, John!!!
My family found the Gardner Farm inn through a referral and so happy we did. The place is beautiful, well taken care of, spacious , clean and the owner, John could not be more accommodating. We are planning our family get together a annuallynthere for now on. So worth it! Won't b disappointed.
My husband and I just spent 2 nights at the Gardner Farm Inn. We are local to the area, but were looking for a quick getaway. The inn is quaint with very nicely appointed rooms and a lot of charm. It is a work in progress and the proprietor, John, shared with us a lot of his dreams and plans, and I think this place is going to get even better and better with time and John's creativity and vision. He lives on the premises and offers very refreshing old fashioned hospitality. He cooked a homemade delicious meal each morning at the time of our choosing. We chose to eat at the kitchen island and talk to him as he cooked, with his two beautiful great danes lounging on their beds behind us. The vibe is very informal but very inviting, as if John is inviting you into his own home as his guests. If you are looking for a formal B&B experience with all the ducks in a row and neat as a pin, this probably isn't for you. This is more eclectic and interesting with a very personal touch and the occasional quirk. My husband and I really enjoyed it.
I took my husband for our 27th wedding anniversary we could not have picked a better place. Rick and Lorrie the owners are wonderful I could rest and relax my husband was able to fish, they have everything you. You need a quiet get away from everyday life this is the place to go. Enjoy a hidden gem for sure
Great escape from hectic life in the city. This was a bed and breakfast with a lot of character. John, the proprietor, is not only a superb host, but also has an artistic eye for design. He has created a comfortable, hip, and welcoming inn. We stayed two nights and felt free to either spend quiet time in our room, visit sites and events in town, or socialize with guests. John uses his fundraising and event planning skills to facilitate a social environment where guest mingle with ease. Had some of the best conversations in a while over a delicious breakfast of frittatas and freshly baked mixed berry muffins. We enjoyed it so much that we plan to make a trip back.
The rooms are just like the photos- gorgeous, with beautiful ensuites. The breakfast was delicious!! John is so thoughtful and went the extra mile to give us a memorable stay. We booked ahead for our next visit because this new B&B will surely be booked out once the word is out.
I have stayed for the past 10 years in mid June. It has become one my happy places. Rick and Lorrie are wonderful people and excellent hosts. I give them my highest recommendation. I will be staying here for years to come. Hal
If you need a B&B in this area, look no further, you found the prize! We have stayed here a few times over the years when we are in the area or passing through. The innkeepers are friendly, warm and have a 6th sense. They are always there when you need something but never in the way or in you face. The rooms are clean, clean, clean and the breakfast is always more than you could ask for. The price is an excellent value and the setting very serene. I can't recommend this place enough!
My stay with John at the Gardner's Farm Inn was one of the absolute highlights of my trip. John is a hilarious, warm, welcoming and helpful host who makes any guest feel like you're a part of his home. The house is stunningly decorated, and each bedroom is huge and gorgeous, with a luxurious ensuite in each. The town of Troy is an easy walk away, and is a fun, quaint little place. I could not recommend more highly.
We,stayed at the Gardner farm in late September . It was a welcome surprise. John as everyone has mentioned is a fabulous ,generous host and went well beyond our expectations looking after our needs with care and understanding. The rooms are beautiful and Troy provides a fascinating setting for a visit. John happily gave us tips on where to go and what to see. We recommend Gardner farm inn highly and hope we can visit again soon.
Outstanding staff, location and amenities. I stayed in the summer and was treated to a wonderful breakfast in the garden. House is gorgeous and kept meticulously clean. Can't find a better location if you need to go to the State House. Great restaurants in area, as well.
I stayed at the Gardner Farm Inn over Labor Day holiday weekend. It was wonderful! I was traveling alone, to clear my head from the noise of Manhattan, and John made me feel completely at ease.John is such a gracious host. He was kind enough to give me a ride into town and to the bus station on my departure - and even took me to the overlook to see the Uncle Sam monument and get a view of the town from above. He didn't have to do that, but it made my trip more memorable and it was really thoughtful of him! John is knowledgeable in local history and the best places to eat, drink and enjoy the town also. The Inn itself is just gorgeous! Every corner thoughtfully decorated - every ornament, frame, book, camera is interesting and makes you wander where it came from or why it's part of the Inn now. Most of the items are things that John has collected over the years, which makes the Inn really feel like you're sharing part of someone's home - in a good way though, where you feel welcomed and comfortable. I spent a morning just exploring the Inn and taking photos (some attached - including a photo of John and me with my favorite piece, a portrait of a faceless child, there are a few around the Inn). The rooms are comfortably sized and suit a range of travelers (I got a tour as I checked in early). I stayed in the Oscar Wilde room - it's beautiful! Elegant and old worldly feeling. The queen bed was super soft and comfy and there are a range of pillows to suit. My first night I slept almost 12 hours straight and don't think I moved once, I was THAT comfy (and yes, I was also exhausted!). Breakfast both mornings was fresh and delicious - french toast with berries and pineapple with natural maple syrup; ham and cheese quiche. I plan to come back to the Inn with my husband as soon as our schedules allow and I look forward to trying out one of the other rooms. I cannot recommend the Gardner Farm Inn enough. Don't hesitate in making this place your new favorite B & B!!
We were coming from a wedding downstate and were running about an hour late from check-in. We made the courtesy call to Rick to let him know we were late and he graciously removed any urgency, telling us to take our time. We arrived at the B&B and found it just like the photographs. Rick and Lorrie welcomed us, gave us a quick, but complete tour and reviewed all we needed to know. We settled into our room, the suite, and ordered some snack take-out food from the corner convenience stroke/deli. We walked out to the lakeside dock and enjoyed the most fantastic evening watching the lights across the lake and enjoying a perfect star-lit summer night. We retired to our room and had a fantastic stay. The bed was comfortable and the room was cozy and welcoming. The setting is nice and quiet, private and relaxing. We woke to the aroma of cooking bacon. Breakfast was absolutely incredible! The table was set and ready for us with a beautifully arranged plate of fresh fruit, cherry bread, coffee and juice. The main course was an egg strata, with a side of bacon and a toasted muffin. It was absolutely delicious! Another couple told us they took a morning walk to the end of the lake where there is a cemetery. The area is quite beautiful in a natural way. The house is impeccably clean and Rick and Lorrie are wonderful hosts. Friendly and welcoming yet respectful of your privacy. Absolutely a highlight of our weekend and I would highly recommend the Mariaville Lake Bed and Breakfast to anyone looking for a wonderful stay, great food and a lakeside setting.
My husband and I stayed in John's lovely home a few days ago. John is by far the inn's best feature, which is strong praise. He is a very sweet, kind, generous man, and is genuinely interested in getting to know his guests. We were welcomed like old friends and felt right at home immediately. Every room in the inn is decorated thoughtfully and elegantly. John has an amazing eye for art and objets, and he stashes wondrous and fascinating little decor details everywhere. I could have wandered around the house for hours and been absorbed in details. The fundamentals are also very nice-- the bed was soft and comfy, and the rooms are big and airy. The bathrooms have copious lovely marble tile everywhere. I am really looking forward to my next trip!
My husband and I stayed at the Gardner Farm Inn a few days ago (late August 2015). We stayed in the John Waters room. Like all of the common spaces in the inn, our room was decorated very thoughtfully. I could have spent hours wandering around the house staring at all the little details. John has an amazing eye for art and antiques, and general objets. The rooms are airy and spacious, and the bathrooms are lovely marble all around. John is a kind and generous soul. He welcomed us into his home and he treated us like old friends. I can't wait to go back!
The Gardener Farm Inn is a beautiful inviting B&B. The rooms are spectacular with antiques furnishings with new private baths in each. The finishings are so lovely...like the lighting and woodwork. John the Innkeeper is as friendly and welcoming as one will find. Highly recommended!
Just spent the weekend and could not have asked for more. Rick and Lorrie opened their home to us and could not be more accommodating. The rooms were clean and attention was paid to every detail. They are gracious hosts and work hard to create a very pleasant experience for their guests. Thank you for your hospitality. Keep doing what you do.
We loved staying at Rick and Lorrie's bed and breakfast from July 20-22. They were probably the most congenial hosts we've ever had--very welcoming, friendly, helpful, yet respectful of our privacy. I loved the smell, look, and feel of the old house, including the quaint steps leading upstairs, which were green and painted with cityscapes. Our room (the Lakeview room) was beautiful with wonderful views of the lake, as advertised. Breakfasts, made by Lorrie, were delicious, inventive, and featured fresh herbs from her garden and edible flowers. The inn's private dock overlooking Mariaville Lake was is a great place to sit and have a meditative morning before you begin your day--much tranquility and peace there. We also had a great dinner in Schenectady at Aperitivo, which the hosts recommended--it's "high end" but delicious and worth the price. Lastly, we brought our bikes, and Rick very kindly accommodated us by letting us store them in his shed. We highly recommend this B&B and will definitely consider coming back!
My husband, son and I stayed at the cottage for a long weekend while we collected our daughter from a camp at Union college. It was a quick commute and a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of a city. The lake is located across a street but hardly a car went by even on the weekend. And to our utmost surprise the lake is quiet with little jet ski or motor boat noise. The cottage was perfect for our family of 4 and we even had 2 friends stay at the main house but join us for a picnic dinner and camp fire.Rick was friendly and available to answer our every question. We took his advice and did both the waterfall hike and beaver damn walk. Both wonderful. He also stocked our fridge with organic goodies to start our day. Very welcome after a long drive up from northern virginia. Thank you Rick and have a great end of summer! The Dietrich's (July 2014)
A year ago August my family spent time at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast to celebrate Life and gather the 4 generations coming from 6 states! It was a great reunion with superb rooms each so special in their unique way and excellent food and service by our "hosts superior" ! The cottage worked beautifully for the youngest family with 3 little ones and we even had our 91 year old MOM climbing the stairs and enjoying herself immensely. From the outdoor activities to the indoor birthday party around the big dining room table and board games, our 4 days were perfect! My grandson even caught his 1st fish! Thank you again, Rick and Lorrie for giving us this opportunity to find the "perfect place"! Cindy
Perfect balance of accommodating our dietary and other requests while leaving us privacy. Both Rick and Lorrie are good listeners. Breakfast was delicious. No negatives at all during our 3 night stay June 2014.
My partner and I had a great stay at Mariaville Lake Bed and Breakfast! Rick and Lorrie were warm and welcoming and really made us feel at home. We stayed in the Vineyard room, which has a lovely view of the lake and a very comfortable bed. The home is lovely. It dates back to the 1850's and has gorgeous period details, yet is so comfortable that we spent hours simply sitting by the fire and reading in the downstairs parlor. Last but not least, Lorrie's cooking is out of this world good, and both she and Rick were very responsive to our food preferences--when you go, make sure to ask Lorrie for her gluten-free pancakes with apples for breakfast!
A last road trip with my pregnant daughter. This was an amazing way to spend our time together. Service was excellent and cheerful, we felt completely at home, and we enjoyed every minute of our breakfasts. This wonderful old house will see me again!
The location of the Mariaville Bed and Breakfast was centrally located in New York and allowed for a nice visit with my old college roommates. The three of us enjoyed Lorrie and Rick's friendly hospitality while we caught up on old times. The rooms, the house and the lake were absolutely beautiful. We took advantage of the great weather by hiking, kayaking, relaxing by the lakeside as well as sitting by a fire at night. Both mornings breakfast was a real treat and so nicely presented. Coffee, tea and snacks were available at all times. Thank you for such a great visit. Maybe in the winter I will come back with my snow shoes!
We finally used our living social voucher and made our way to Mariaville, NY. Driving up to the house in the dark is a bit eerily but in the light of the morning it was beautiful. We did not have anything planned to while we were there except to relax! That is what we did. We are definitely planning on a return trip in the fall.
This was a cute B & B. The rooms were neat and clean and Rick was a great host - very friendly, helpful and full of knowledge! Didn't see Lorrie until the last day at breakfast and we were wondering who she was since she was suddenly there with no introduction. Kitchen help was fabulous! Would have been nice if they did a turn-down service as in other B&B, rather than leaving a note to request it.
Rick was very friendly and informative. The room was nice, but the water has a bit of a sulfur smell. The first breakfast, apple cinnamon stuffed pancakes was very good. The second breakfast, rosemary potato frittata was not to my liking.
Friendly hosts, beautiful decor, delicious breakfasts and comfortable bed! Rick lit a fire in the living room fireplace for us our first night. Had place to ourselves as we were there 2 nights on a Sunday and Monday. Good recommendation for dinner and for hike to a huge beaver dam! Suggestion-Should have off-season rates as we were unable to use outdoors and lake access due to being there in December. Still, loved it and plan to go back in warmer season! Lee and Dan
Several years ago I stayed here while I was taking the bar exam down the block. It was as clean and comfortable as my own home. If I couldn't sleep on my own bed, I'm glad that they had one available. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!
