Cook about ¾ pound sausage and dice into small pieces.
Grease a 9 X 13 inch pan.
Break 8 – 10 slices of bread into small chunks.
Stir 8 – 10 eggs in a bowl and stir in 2 cups of milk.
Layer the following ingredients in order:
On the bottom, spread chunks of bread evenly over the pan.
Cover bread with pieces of cooked sausage (or a variation could be ham).
Layer grated white American (or cheddar) cheese (approx. 1 cup).
Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly over the entire pan.
Cover pan with foil or lid and place in refrigerator for several hours (overnight is best).
